One of convenient functions of Steam service can consider the system of servers developing since the first Half-Life.

1. Actually, Steam carries out, by and large, observation of servers. Loading is carried out on a network link and capacities of the computer of that person who solved this lift server. In total for the history Valve brought into the world several on-line fighters (and not only fighters), and connection to a game in them is carried out a little differently. Respectively, it is possible to break these games as connection into three blocks.
2. Server menu. Here it is possible to carry games of the Counter Strike, Half-Life and Team Fortress series. Let's sort this type on the example of Team Fortress 2. The server menu represents a window with several tabs: Internet, "History", "Favorites", "Friends", etc. In the lower part of a window there are several fields, the drop-down menus and points allowing to filter the list of servers in different parameters: by the number of players, the game mode, a ping, the region, settings of the server, level at which a game takes place, etc.
3. Lobby. This type is supported by Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2. The lobby is a peculiar virtual room in which players before another running cooling soul gather. There is time to chat a little in a voice or text chat, to discuss tactics or just some gossips. When players enough is gained, the creator of a lobby starts a game, and Steam selects a game server.
4. As easy as shelling pears. In this group only Portal 2 at the moment appears. Only two players can participate in a network game therefore manipulations with connection are minimized. In the main menu click on the Joint Game point then the list of people with whom you managed to make friends in the Steam system will open. Now you can invite someone from them in a game. Besides, there is an opportunity to play with the casual passenger (the Find the Workmate in Network button below), but the system will warn you that Portal 2 best of all is suitable for a joint game with friends.
