The Hosts file is used for communication of names of hosts – servers, domains – with their IP addresses. After accessing a domain name of Windows first of all checks whether the entered name is own computer name, and after that looks for a name in the Hosts file. If the name is found, search stops and there is a connection with the server. If search gave nothing, there is accessing DNS. Under the influence of viruses, incorrect data on names of the websites can be entered in files of Hosts and those will not open. To correct the arisen errors, it is necessary to restore a host.

1. The Hosts file often becomes an object for the attacks of malicious applications which make the changes. It can be made to redirect the user on the websites, instead of those which are entered by the user into a line of the browser, etc. It is possible to solve a problem by means of scanning by an antivirus. During work the antivirus software will correct the Hosts file if it is modified. If there are doubts in efficiency of an antivirus, it is possible to arrive as follows. At first to roll away a system through a recovery point back (Start-up – All programs – Standard-office – System recovery). Then to check the computer by means of the treating utility of other antivirus (for example, it is possible to use the treating Dr.Web CureIt utility). It is necessary to consider that if the host is corrected, but the error continues to repeat (we will tell, after reset), so there is a virus, and at first it is necessary to fix this problem, and then to resolve an issue with the Hosts file.
2. It is possible to restore a host by means of special utilities. Most of them, as a rule, free. For example, it "Recovery HOSTS / Recovery of the hosts file". 3. It is possible to restore a host and independently, without utilities. For this purpose the file needs to be opened in the Notepad text editor. For correction it is necessary to delete from it all excess lines and then to save the file. As a rule, excess lines are written much below than the original text.
