How to throw ports

Digital Hits: 98

Users of network programs and games often face problems of communication when the Internet is, and connection is not established. It occurs because on the router the port necessary for a program runtime is closed. To solve this problem, it is enough to reassign, or to throw ports, that is to configure rules for ports in the router or the modem.

Instruction

1. Find out the IP address of your router, modem or router. Click "Start-up" and select the Execute menu ("Find programs and files"). The line in which enter the cmd command and press Enter or the OK button will open. The system console via which it is possible to get more information of network settings of the computer will open. Enter the ipconfig command into consoles and click "Input". In the section "Ethernet adapter" you will see several network addresses. One of them will be designated as "The main gateway" or Default Gateway. So your modem or the router via which you also are connected to the Internet looks in a system. Remember the router IP address.

2. Start any browser. In an address bar gather the router address, for example, 192.168.1.1, and click Enter. The window with request of a user name and the password will appear. Enter the word admin in both fields and click OK. You will get on the page of settings of your modem router. At each of vendors the structure of the menu differs, but the basic rules remain are right for all models.

3. Find the Port Forwarding, Virtual Servers, Server Setup or Applications menu — so different firms designate setup of redirection of ports in the routers. Click on the link to pass into the section of setup. There you will see the Add button. Click it for creation of the new rule.

4. Create the number of rules of reassignment of ports necessary to you. For example, you need to throw ports from 1120 to 1125 for a torrent client which uses port 2500. Learn the IP address by means of the console and the ipconfig command — you will need to specify that computer for which ports will be reassigned in settings of the rule. Enter the name of the rule in the Service Name field, it can be any according to your desire. Further in the Protocol field specify the protocol under which the program works. Best of all select TCP/UDP if you do not know for sure.

5. Enter the IP address of your computer in the section Server IP. If you see the inscriptions Start port and End port, you can enter range for reassignment (1120-1125) at once. If there are no such designations, for each port it will be necessary to create the separate rule. Enter the port number to which these programs, that is 1120 in our example, in the field of WAN Port or Public Port will come. Specify port receiver, that is 2500 from an example, in the section Host Port or Private Port.

6. Save the created rule clicking of the OK or Save/Apply button. Then reboot the modem router and your computer. After that the rule will be used by a system, and you will be able fully to use your program or a game.
