Working on the Internet, the user can visually control connection with network on a connection icon in a system tray. But if the icon of connection is active even in downtime of the computer, there is a need of more complete control of traffic.
Instruction
1. The uncontrollable network activity of the computer can testify both to system infection with malicious software, and to its wrong setup. Therefore at first open "Control panel" and turn off the automatic Windows update. Then, after check of the computer, you turn on it again.
2. Open the folder of autostart: "Start-up" – "Execute", the msconfig command, the Automatic loading tab, remove birdies from all programs unnecessary you. Many installed programs register themselves in autostart that slows down loading and operation of the computer.
3. Disconnect all services unnecessary you: "Start-up" – "Control panel" – "Administration" – "Services". Process description of shutdown find the list of services which can be disconnected and in the Internet.
4. Having performed the previous operations, check operation of the computer. If traffic continues to be used uncontrollable, open the command line: "Start-up" – "All programs" – "Standard" – "Command line". Make the netstat team – aon and look at the list of the current connections - they will be marked as Established. In the right part of a window you will see the identifier list of processes – PID.
5. Enter the tasklist command in the same window. You will see the list of the started processes, in the second column their identifiers will be specified. Having compared PID from the list of connections with identifiers of the process list, you will be able to find out what processes use connection to the Internet.
6. If you cannot define by name process to what program it belongs, use the AnVir Task Manager utility. Start it, find in the process list what interests you. In information on it it will be specified as the started file, and an autostart key in the register. The AnVir Task Manager utility shows also the current connections, it is very convenient to use it for diagnostics of a system.
7. If you need complete control of traffic, install and start the BWMeter program. Open the Details tab and click Start in the Control panel. All connections with the indication of the IP addresses will be specified in a window of the program. Additional windows of the program will give you the complete information about traffic. You can include recording; all information on the used traffic will be saved in the text file.
