The domain is one of capital assets of the website. The sonorous, beautiful and well memorable domain name can become one of components of success of a resource. Often it happens so that the online project is created on the domain which is not causing admiration at all. But it suddenly ""shoots"", finding great popularity. Then owners of a resource can buy more suitable name and transfer the website to other domain. However similar process is fraught with loss of an essential part of audience. Though, having seriously approached a question, it is possible to minimize risks.
It is required to you
- - access to the website CMS admin panel;
- - access to the control panel of the account of a hosting on which there is a website;
- - access to the control panel of the domain for which the website will be postponed;
- - Internet access;
- - modern browser;
- - program ftp-client;
- - optionally: access to the website server under the SSH protocol, the SSH client.
Instruction
1. Place the notification on the forthcoming transfer on the website. Specify the domain on which the website and also date and time when the corresponding works are performed will be moved. It is worth placing the notification for several days before the actual change of the address. It will allow to study information on transfer to the bigger number of users and also will create time stock necessary for delegation of the new domain.
2. Add the domain on which the website, will be transferred to the list of domains a hosting account. It can be done in the control panel. As a result on the server the relevant structure of directories will be created, entries about the domain will be added on the DNS server and also the domain will be entered into structure of the supported http-server hosts.
3. Change the list of DNS servers of the new domain. Learn the addresses of the DNS servers servicing domains of the server on which the website is located. Usually this information is provided on the hoster website, or in the control panel a hosting account. Come into the control panel of the domain (it is located on the website of the registrar or reseller). Change the list of DNS servers. Save changes.
4. Wait for delegation of the domain with the new list of DNS servers. As a rule, change of information on root DNS servers of a zone happens once at 6-8 o'clock. Also time for update of information on the caching DNS servers of your provider can be required.
5. Make sure that by name the domain access to the server on which the website, under the HTTP protocol is located is possible. For this purpose place in the folder which is the root directory of the website, test HTML file and make its loading in the browser.
6. Start transfer of the website on the new domain. Close access to structures of the directories corresponding to the old and new domain by means of basic-authorization. Disconnect the chron tasks. Make backup copies of databases and files of the website.
7. Transfer the website. Copy or move all files of the website from the directory corresponding to the old domain to the directory corresponding to the new domain with full save of structure of directories. It is convenient to do it, having connected to the server on SSH. If there is no such opportunity, copy files on the local computer on FTP, and then unload them on FTP from the local computer in the new folder on the server. At the same time installation of access rights to files and folders according to their values in the old directory can be required. Correct the configuration files CMS according to its new arrangement on the server. Come into the admin panel of the website and change configuration settings if it is required.
8. Complete transfer of the website. Check whether the resource works at the new domain correctly. Delete copies of files of the website (if their copying, but not transfer was executed) from the directory corresponding to the old domain. Configure page-by-page readdressing from the old domain on new. Turn off basic-authorization for access to the old and new website.
