How to turn on the dns server

Quite often Internet users have difficulties with access to network for the reason that at Internet service provider the DNS server temporarily fails. That is physically the Internet channel stable, but is not present access to resources because of nonserviceability of the server. Locally configured DNS server can help with such situations. The problem is only that in the majority of the user operating systems of Microsoft (Windows 2000/XP/Vista) there is no built-in DNS server therefore it is necessary to use third-party developments.

It is required to you

  • - the computer connected to the Internet;
  • - unbound DNS server distribution kit.

Instruction

1. Before beginning installation of own DNS server, consult with support desk of provider – whether this process will interfere with stable work of Internet connection whether it contradicts general settings for specific provider.

2. Download unbound-DNS from the website http://unbound.net/. The installer of this DNS server will be in the section "Downloads". It is necessary to select that installer which is developed for 32 bit operating systems of Windows (even if you installed sixty four bit operating system from Microsoft, most likely this application will be started in the compatibility mode).

3. Start unbound installer (unbound _setup_X.X.X., where X – digital designations of the version downloaded by you, on the website of the developer, as a rule, it is possible to find the freshest the version at the moment), in a dialogue mode follow according to the recommendations of an istallyator (where it will be required, click "Next" where will ask – read the license agreement and make a mark that got acquainted with it). At the end of installation you just will need to confirm its termination with clicking of the Finish button. On it installation of the DNS server is complete. It is not required to turn on it to you – it automatically starts after completion of process of installation. After reset it will be automatically started too if you compulsorily do not disconnect it.

4. Configure your network connection, having specified as additional DNS your local host (Localhost IP address by default – 127.0.0.1) – this option will approach if in settings of network connection two DNS – the main and additional were specified. If in settings the tick on Receive the DNS Server Address Automatically option was put, then compulsorily change settings for manual entry of the address of the DNS server and specify the address localhost (127.0.0.1) both for the basic, and for the additional DNS server.

5. Check availability of Internet nodes - try to come on one of them. If the Internet earned, can forget about this problem. If is not present, check availability of the gateway of your Internet service provider, it is possible that a problem in physical connection with your provider.
