This technology introduced a set of new functions, such as reception of multimedia messages (MMS), Internet access, RTT of service and Internet-application.

WAP is the addition to the protocol of wireless communication which represents the technical standard for an information access by means of a mobile wireless network. It allows different to get an information access through WAP browsers. WAP uses a markup language of WML which is integrated into each portable device. The markup language is the tool for viewing pages on the small screen of phone.
Traditional web browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari Apple, allow to get access to web pages on the Internet. Nevertheless these pages are crowded with data: images of high resolution, text information, etc. WAP solves this problem. When viewing the same pages through mobile all contents are displayed in text form.
Main distinctions
The difference between WAP and GPRS is very essential. GPRS is method of connection to the Internet via phone. WAP is a protocol which is built in mobile web browsers.
Besides, GPRS connection is used not only for Internet access. There are many applications and programs which use GPRS for data transmission and information. One of them are SMS services or text messages. Use of GPRS allows to send bigger number of messages within a short period of time, in comparison with traditional methods.
