1. To the emergence the Internet is obliged to the Defense Ministry - the U.S. Department of Defense. In the 70th years in the Pentagon the decision on development of the reliable, failsafe communication system which would provide connection even in case of partial destruction was made. The team of scientists under the name ARPA was formed. On December 5, 1969 the Internet is considered date of emergence. This day three computers in California and one computer in the State of Utah were successfully united in network and exchanged data. This plain chain received the name ARPAnet.
2. At first ARPAnet integrated several powerful computers in the military organizations, educational and research centers. ARPAnet is obliged by the rapid development to the scientific universities equipped with computers and which saved up by then large volumes of electronic information resources. Certainly, the possibility of exchange of these data was of great interest to scientific community. In the 90th in network the new service - World Wide Web appeared. Simplicity of access and use of this service led to the fact that the most mass user - housewives and businessmen, teachers and students, etc. began to be connected to the World Wide web - and the network became available to normal owners of personal computers.
3. To evaluate the scale and a variety of opportunities which are opened by the Internet it is enough to analyze that computers are able to do today. The answer is simple – the computer is capable of control practically of any device or process which the person can control. From computers of, actually, powerful calculators, computers turned into universal remedies of information processing and coordination of difficult organizational processes.
4. By means of computers, movies are created, weather forecasts become, medical analyses are carried out, control of the plants and spaceships is exercised, traffic, etc. is regulated. Actually, today thanks to development of computer technologies the mankind is in a step from creation of artificial intelligence.
5. The Internet not only gives to the ordinary user access to results of work of millions of computers worldwide, but also provides an opportunity to participate in management processes. The manager thanks to the Internet directs the transport hub which is for hundreds of kilometers from its workplace, the doctor holds medical consultation of the patient in other city, the broker sends instant messages about purchase or sale of securities on the stock exchange.
6. Today the Internet ensures functioning of e-mail, services of free information exchange (FTP servers), search servers (search engines) and Telnet of servers of remote access to other computers of network.
