Whisky - the strong alcoholic drink having characteristic taste and aroma. There is a huge set of grades of whisky and also several manufacturing techniques.

For production of whisky in different countries take various grades of grain as a basis. In Scotland, whisky does on the basis of barley, in Ireland adds to barley also a rye. In the USA and Canada, whisky becomes on corn, wheat. Production of whisky takes place in several stages. At the first stage there is a receiving malt from grain. This stage is absent at preparation of the American whisky.

The cleaned barley dries, then is presoaked for 10 days. As a result of soaking, grain sprouts, the germinated grain also is called malt. Malt is exposed to drying again for what in Scotland the hot smoke is used.

Smoke is received from combustion of peat or charcoal. In other countries, smoke as method of malt kilning isn't used. Therefore the smoky peat aroma is characteristic feature of Scottish drink. Dry-through malt is crushed and filled in with hot water, left for 8-12 hours. As a result the mash to which after cooling yeast is added turns out. After that within two days there is a fermentation process for what air temperature about 35 degrees is maintained. After fermentation, drink gets strength about 5%, further it undergoes distillation process. Home brew is overtaken by 2-3 times. For the first time receive liquid with alcohol content to 30%, in the second – about 70%. The result of the second distillation is diluted with water for achievement of optimum fortress. The taste of a product strongly depends on a form of a concrete distillating still. Therefore when replacing the device its exact copy with all defects is reproduced. The last and major fabrication stage of whisky is the endurance. It occurs in oak casks where whisky darkens and receives additional flavoring properties. The minimum term of aging of whisky is two-three years. There are such grades of whisky which demand endurance of 10 and more years, these are exclusive and collection grades. If not to carry out endurance, just barley alcohol will turn out. The drink in an oak cask spends more time, the more fusel oils absorb a tree. Before pouring of whisky undergoes filtration through paper membranes then dilute with spring water and spill on bottles. Distinguish single malt whisky, malt and blended. Single malt whisky is considered the most elite, it is made only of germinated barley. Blended whisky represents mix of alcohols on the basis of different grain.
