Instruction

1. Squids are included into group of decapoda of cephalopod mollusks, possess four pairs of tentacles, one of which - grasping - is supplied with chitinous rings. Over the years rings turn in крючья and become rather terrible weapon.

2. By the sizes the squids not large, usually in length don't exceed 25-50 centimeters. Such mollusks are eaten though there are also huge squids having the serious sizes. The largest, the squid who is officially registered by scientists made 17.4 meters in length from a back to a tip of tentacles and weighed 500-600 kg. These sizes are comparable approximately to the five-floor house. Thus, some mollusks it is possible by the right to call the biggest animals living on the earth.

3. Squids possess a dense body of a cylindrical form, have the pointed plate reminding an arrow in a form. These mollusks are great swimmers. Under water they move by means of a fin or a reactive way, gathering in themselves water and pushing out it through a small nozzle.

4. Some medium-sized squids are capable to gather speed to 50 km/h, competing only with units from inhabitants of oceans among which there is a dolphin, a swordfish and a tuna. For avoiding predators the squids can jump out of water, flying by up to 50 meters by air. Sometimes during flight they get on the deck of the ship therefore sailors call them the flying squids.

5. There live squids from 1 to 3 years, but huge types can live much longer. Some of mollusks in case of danger throw out an ink cloud, disorienting a predator and avoiding prosecution. Besides, the interesting fact is also that squids have blood of blue color. This feature is inherent in them thanks to the content in copper blood.
