Cocktail Collins: history, recipes

Multi-colored alcoholic beverages can be met in any cafe, restaurant or bar. Their preparation, as a rule, put difficult. But it isn't obligatory to study art of the bartender at all to make cocktail Collins in house conditions and to please friends and the family with unusual aperitif.

History of emergence

Cocktail Collins is obliged by emergence to the bartender from the London hotel "Limmerz" John Collins who in 1980 mixed gin with a sugar syrup and sparkling water, having added lemon juice to the turned-out mix. Drink for extraordinary bright taste instantly gained fame, and soon it was allocated in separate type of cocktails.  

Further there were various interpretations of kolins. – to unsweetened alcoholic drink – added fruit and sweet syrups, liqueurs, mineral water, soda to an invariable basis and also decorated with segments of berries and fruit or branches of fresh greens. But the classical option which was fixed under the name "Tom Collins" remains invariable.

How to prepare

On structure some types of cocktails confuse among themselves, but differences can be seen if to look narrowly at ways of preparation and registration of drinks. Kollinza, for example, often take for fizza. The last demand more intensive agitation and don't provide addition in registration of jewelry.

To make cocktail Collins, the shaker where the crushed ice is filled up previously will be required. Further in capacity all ingredients, excepting soda and mineral water are filled in. Having mixed all components, the bartender pours drink in a special glass the "highball glass" filled with the crushed ice and dilutes the turned-out mix mineral or soda. Ready cocktail needs to be mixed a spoon, to decorate with halves of fresh berries or lemon zest and a tax with two straws.

Classical "Tom Collins"

This recipe can be taken safely as a basis and to experiment with components, selecting ingredients for the taste.

To prepare traditional Collins, it will be required:

  • gin – 50 ml
  • sugar syrup – 25 ml
  • lemon juice – 25 ml
  • sparkling water – 100 ml
  • orange – 30 g
  • ice cubes – 400 g

In the shaker filled with ice to mix gin, syrup and juice. To slightly shake up and pour the turned-out liquid through a sieve in a glass. From above to pour in sparkling water and to mix accurately. Before giving to decorate a glass with orange segments.

"Green terrace"

Unusual and the spiciness of this Collins will help to make an impression even on the most exacting public. For its preparation it will be required:

  • cognac – 50 ml
  • sugar syrup – 10 ml
  • sparkling water – 100 ml
  • lime – 40 g
  • green grapes – 30 g
  • red basil – 8 g
  • ice a crumb – 200 g

Lay out previously washed out berries, a lime and leaflets of a basil in a glass. Suppress components, but it isn't too strong that everything didn't turn into porridge. Further ice, syrup and cognac are added to a glass. From above all this is filled in with sparkling water and mixes up. When giving the glass can be decorated with a half of grape or leaflets of a basil.  

"Rohm Collins"

This cocktail also carries the name "Pedro Collins". For it it will be required:

  • rum (light) – 35 ml
  • lemon juice – 15 ml
  • sugar syrup – 1 tsp.
  • soda – 100 ml
  • cherry - 2 pieces.

Rum, juice and syrup fill in in a shaker with ice, shake up, pour in the glass filled on 2/3 ice. From above dilute with soda and decorate glass walls with cherry
