How to paint mastic in house conditions

Mastic for pastries is an effective way to decorate cake as it will want to you. It is convenient in use, is plastic, is perfectly stored and perfectly looks on cake. It is possible to decorate with mastic various desserts - from thematic cakes to many-tier wedding cakes.

Often during the work with mastic it is required to paint it in any color. It can be done, using special food colors of the necessary shade. And if the choice in shops doesn't please also the necessary shade it isn't possible to find – these councils can come to the rescue.

  •    If you can't find the necessary food color or against use of chemical dyes, it is possible to use juice. Light green color will give to mastic spinach juice, red – beet juice, orange – carrot juice. For lighter color it is possible to defreeze spinach and to wring out from it juice. More concentrated color turns out if to boil thoroughly spinach in a small amount of water and to filter.
  •    Yellow color can be received from a turmeric. For this purpose it is necessary to make a turmeric boiled water (1 tablespoon of a turmeric, 2 tablespoons of boiled water), to allow to infuse, then to filter. The turned-out broth can be used as yellow dye.
  •    Violet color can be received from elder juice. Other way to receive violet dye is to boil the chopped red cabbage in a small amount of water.
  •    It is very difficult to paint mastic black color without black dye. Skilled workers in that case use mix of three dyes: by one part red and blue and two parts of blue. The turned-out blackness depends on shades of dyes which were used. Color can be not completely black, but slightly greenish with a shade violet.
  •    One more way to receive black color is to add the burned-through sugar to mastic, having received brown color. Then modify color by means of blue dye.
