BMI or body mass index

BMI or body mass index

would seem, a simple thing – to define a proper correlation of the growth and body weight and also to learn whether not too you lost weight or gained excess weight lately. However, many cannot define even it and therefore we decided to acquaint you with the easiest ways of calculation.

The easiest way it to take an indicator of the growth and just to take away from it 100 then the approximate number close to ideal body weight turns out. For example, your growth is 180 cm, and you weigh 90 kg.

180 – 100 = 80, so the mass of extra kilos is 10 kg.

However almost nobody uses this simple equation as it contains the mass of inaccuracies. For better calculation BMI or body mass index is used.

There is a special formula of BMI = body weight/growth * growth, and growth will be measured in meters.

For example, your data, as well as in above-mentioned option, 180 cm growth and 90 kg of weight. 1.8*1.8=3.24. 90/3.24=27.7.

There is a table of comparison of indicators which show various excesses from norm.

  • BMI is lower 18.5 - insufficient weight
  • BMI 18.5-24.99 - normal weight
  • BMI 25-29.99 – preobesity (excess weight)
  • BMI 30-34.99 - obesity of the I degree
  • BMI 35-40 - obesity of the II degree
  • BMI of more than 40 - obesity of the III degree

From these data it becomes clear that it is better to hold an indicator of BMI from 19 to 25. At a low indicator there is dystrophy which can lead to some unpleasant diseases, slow exchange of substances, anemia, osteoporosis, osteochondrosis and are designated.

At an indicator higher than 25 usually there is an excess weight or preobesity which is sign of extra kilos so whenever possible you go on a diet or play sports, otherwise all this leads to strong violations in a human body – to diseases of a cardiovascular and endocrine system, a GIT and skeleton.

So try to watch the weight, prevention – pledge of long and healthy life.
