guelder-rose ordinary (Viburnum opulus) is a large bush with berries of red coloring. The guelder-rose enters into family of a honeysuckle family. As ingredients flowers, bush bark, fruits are used. The period of blossoming of a guelder-rose drops for May – June. Preparation of curative raw materials begins, as a rule, in April. Bark dries on open space or in the dry room (temperature has to be about 40-45 °C). The guelder-rose fructifies in the fall, time of gathering berries usually passes in September.
Many medical qualities which are used in traditional medicine for treatment of various illnesses are peculiar to Kalina. Bark of a guelder-rose has vasoconstrictive and styptic properties which are actively applied in treatment of gynecologic diseases. In particular, broth of bark raises a uterus tone at postnatal uterine bleedings and at strong periods. It is a consequence of existence in bark of a guelder-rose of a glycoside of a viburnin and tannins which have the knitting and styptic effect.
To contain in fruits of a guelder-rose vitamins C and P, manganese, zinc, tannic and pectinaceous substances, organic acids, sugar. Many decades use kalinovy berries decoction at cold, dry cough, also recommend it at a hypertension, stomach ulcer, a diarrhea, eczema, a furunkuleza. Berries possess the sudorific, knitting and diuretic action, have the calming and toning action on an organism.
The cosmetology also uses useful properties of a guelder-rose. Kalinovy juice removes eels, helps at skin pigmentation, freckles and rejuvenates skin. Cosmetic masks from guelder-rose juice together with sour cream or egg white in well purify skin. Guelder-rose seeds apply to preparation of folk remedies too. Seeds tincture has sudorific and hypotensive properties, is used at diseases of heart and disorder of intestines.
There are, however, also some contraindications. The guelder-rose should be applied with care at diseases of kidneys, high blood clotting, tendency to thrombosis, at gout and at pregnancy.
