As it is correct to thin out plants

Very often at cultivation of vegetable cultures of gardeners the failure comprehends because plants on beds are not thinned out and grow closely to each other. If in time not to carry out thinning of plants, they not only will yield poor harvest, but also can die, besides in such plants large amount of noxious to health nitrates accumulates. For this reason experienced gardeners pay a lot of attention to thinning.

The majority of vegetable cultures needs to be thinned out twice, combining this procedure with weeding. The first time of plant is thinned out when on them 2-3 leaves, the second time appear – when the number of leaves increases to 4-6. The interval between these two procedures usually makes 30 days. If it is correct to execute everything, then distances between plants after the second thinning has to increase twice in comparison with the first. In those places where intervals are too big, it is possible to place new bushes of plants.

During thinning it is necessary to leave the most developed and healthy plants, the others can be used for replanting in other beds or for cultivation in the greenhouse.

To thin out landings of parsley, carrots, beet, radish, turnips and garden radish it is necessary in phase of forming of the first present sheet. In beds with parsley and carrots, distance between plants has to make 1-2 cm, in beds with turnip – 2-3 cm. The distance between garden radish of early grades has to make not less than 3-4 cm, late grades – not less than 4.5 cm. The second to pro-breakthrough is done in 15-20 days after the first.

When weeding beds with table beet, remote plants can be replaced to vacant places (for example, in beds where the garden radish grew). That remote plants have taken root on the new place, before their outplanting is abundant water and put in the holes prepared in advance so that not to bend core root. That plants have better taken root, part of leaves should be removed. Especially it is important in dry weather when plants have deficiency of moisture.

When thinning carrots it is necessary to try not to injure its stalks as carrot flies are flown to the smell going from tops of vegetable, it is also important to watch that heads of root crops were in the earth, otherwise risk that this wrecker will lay eggs in carrots, increases repeatedly. After thinning it is necessary podgrest the earth to roots and to strew lightly bed with ashes which smell frightens off carrot fly.

After the procedure of thinning of bed it is necessary to loosen, water and carry out mulching of the soil.
