The bergenia is perennial, evergreen grassy plant. Its homeland is Siberia. Most often it grows in the nature on stony slopes and rocks. Leaves at plant of rounded shape, dark green color, large and juicy. In the fall leaves of bergenia redden, and sometimes gain also crimson color. The plant begins to blossom in the early spring, in several days after snow descent. Blossoms the small pink florets collected in inflorescences, quite for a long time.

It perfectly grows on light sites and well feels in shadow and half-shade. However on too solar place the bergenia will badly expand, and in full shadow will not blossom. Therefore when landing it is desirable to recreate environment of this plant.

It is better to land it from the North, northwest or northeast side of the stony site. To bring closer to natural soil conditions for bergenia, it is possible to take the cespitose earth and to mix it with small pebbles and sand in proportion ½. It is desirable not to use loams in soil mix. The bergenia does not transfer stagnation of water therefore the soil has to be well trained.

It is better to land bergenia in the spring or at the beginning of August. The plant is planted in hole by no more than 30 cm. The rhizome has to be located in pole rather freely. If when landing in hole there was enough water, then the following watering will be necessary in week. Slightly stamped earth around landing should be zamulchirovat peat or sawdust.

Care for bergenia consists in weeding, loosening, timely watering, excepting overwetting of the soil. It is necessary to clean plant from old leaves in the spring, to truncate long escapes and to remove dried. On one place the bergenia can grow about 10 years. Also special protection against frosts is not required.
