Tulips can be grown up not only on bed, but also in pot. Of course, to make it not so simply as it seems at first sight, but it is quite possible at great desire.

Choice of grade

Despite the seeming unpretentiousness, not all grades of tulips, and only undersized plants having strong steady peduncle are suitable for house distillation. It is better to choose undersized tulips of Kauffman, Greyga, Foster. Also the grade "the Parade the Record" from Darvinova's class hybrids as it also meets these requirements is suitable for distillation, besides has high resistance to diseases and well transfers distillation.

By preparation of planting stock it is necessary to pay attention to quality of bulb. It is desirable to choose large bulbs, as weighing not less than 35-40 g, with a diameter more than 4.5 cm. This condition is important as in close pot the plant will blossom only at the expense of the nutrients which are saved up in bulb. If the planting stock is preparing in the garden, it is necessary to dig out tulips as soon as leaves begin to turn yellow. After that bulbs have to be stored in the dark aired room at gradual temperature reduction from 20-23os to 16-17os within three months. Then the selected bulbs need to be placed on the lower shelf of the fridge and to store until landing at temperature 5-9os.

When to make landing

It is necessary to plant tulips on distillation at the end of September beginning of October. The ready soil mix consisting of humus, bank sand and the cespitose earth in the ratio 1:1:2 is applied to landing. Small pots with a diameter not less than 12-13 cm, no more than 15 cm high will be suitable for distillation. Availability in pot of drainage holes is important. Before landing in pots the drainage layer from coarse gravel is located, the layer of prime quality land from above is filled. Bulbs before landing should be cleaned from scales, to keep in strong solution of margantsovokisly potassium within 10-15 min. In one pot it is possible to plant three bulbs, having them evenly on pot surface. After that bulbs need to be pressed and filled up slightly from above with the nutritious soil. After that soil it is abundant spills water. If tops of bulbs have become bare after watering, it is necessary to pour the soil again. After landing of tulips the pot with bulbs should be transferred to the cool place for rooting. It is possible to put it on the lower shelf of the fridge again for 1.5-2 months, previously having covered with film to keep the necessary humidity of 75-80%. Periodically landings should be aired that in pot the mold was not formed. At distillation of tulips it is important to observe the periods of keeping of planting stock at low temperatures. Violation of this condition can lead to formation of ugly peduncles which will not be able to be dismissed in due time. At emergence on the surface of the soil of sprouts 5-7 cm high of plant it is necessary to move in the warm room, accustoming them gradually to rise of temperature and daylight. For this purpose it is necessary to cover pots with dense paper caps at first. Further temperature in the room has to be in limits 18-20os, at the same time pots do not need to be put near the electric heater, to provide long daylight hours (10-12 hours) that peduncles were not extended. For watering of tulips it is necessary to use only otstoyanny water and to apply mineral fertilizing during blossoming.
