Currant – one of the most popular garden cultures which are grown up in Russia, and its berries are widely used in cookery. However, the good harvest of currant can be provided to themselves, having only avoided diseases which attack this plant.
The diseases caused by environmental conditions
One of the most widespread diseases of currant is anthracnose. The disease attacks bushes currant in the summer that is promoted by rainy weather. The anthracnose is fungal disease which affects escapes, berries and especially leaves.
At first on leaves of currant there are brown spots which merge over time in one spot which covers leaf completely. If it not to treat, leaves begin to fall down and the plant perishes, even the winter will not become rescue for currant – the anthracnose winters together with the struck bush that with approach of heat to begin destruction of currant with new force.
To remove anthracnose not easy and if small amount of bushes has undergone infection, just it is better to destroy them, without endangering other plants. If it is impossible, it is necessary to spray sick bushes of currant with copper vitriol or the Bordeaux liquid. Also good results in treatment for anthracnose are shown by use of colloid sulfur and homitsin. One more fungal disease which can affect currant is white spottiness. The main symptom of this disease – brown spots on leaves which center brightens over time. Death of leaves, escapes and kidneys become result of white spottiness. Measures of fight against disease are similar to those which are applied at anthracnose. Mainly is the Bordeaux liquid at the first symptoms of disease and prevention in the early spring in the form of spraying of bushes of Fitodoctorom or Nitrofen currant.
The diseases extended by plants carriers and insects
Cup-shaped rust – currant disease which this plant can receive from the sedge growing nearby. Even if it is not on the site, wind is capable to transfer this disease more, than to hundred meters, but cup-shaped rust, as well as white spottiness, is treated by Fitodoctor. The name of disease - mealy dew - speaks for itself: as symptom of this disease serves that leaves and escapes of currant become covered by white raid, and soon after that perish. This disease is treated by solution of laundry soap and universal in fight with diseases of Fitodoctorom currant. The Makhrovost – it is unconditional, one of the most dangerous diseases with which currant can be infected. This viral disease which is completely depriving of harvest. At makhrovost currant loses the smell, leaves begin to darken, and flowers to dry up. But the most important is lack of berries. The Makhrovost does not respond to treatment therefore the infected bush should be destroyed.
