Elsanta Elsanta – creation of the Dutch selectors. The grade has appeared in 1981. Later the European agronomists have taken Elsanta for strawberry standard for cultivation in industrial volumes.
Exterior and flavoring features of grade
Elsanta – result of crossing of two Dutch grades of garden wild strawberry: Holiday and Gorella. Selectors have received hybrid of sredneranny term of maturing. The grade differs in the long period of fructification at average degree of productivity. From "square" it is possible to collect up to 2 kg of berries therefore this grade is in demand for owners of small sites.
Elsanta has open bushes of the small size, with average oblistvennost and the poor number of mustache. Foliage at the same time large. Bushes give not enough young growth (sockets). Peduncles average by the size, not really sprawling. They are on high and thick escapes.
At grade rather large cone-shaped berries, average weight of one – 40-50 g. At full maturing pulp bright red, glossy that is proved by numerous photos of happy gardeners. Emptiness are absent inside, sunflower seeds yellowish and in generous quantity. The fruit stem comes off with ease. At berries classical strawberry taste – attractively sweet, with sourness shred. Berries have aroma.
Thanks to the sufficient density of Elsanta pulp it is suitable for long transportation. In room conditions it can be stored up to two-three days.
The grade is considered universal in respect of the use. Berries of Elsanta are good as in the fresh, and frozen state. Jemaah and jam from them have high tastes.
Agrotechnology of cultivation
Elsantu strawberry should be planted on the constant place in the fall, it is desirable in the middle or the end of September. At this time usually any more there are no high temperatures which not in the best way affect process of rooting of bushes. Landing of plants is carried out according to the scheme of 25х25 cm. Further leaving comes down to timely watering and fertilizing.
The grade is rather winter-hardy. However drought resistance indicators at it averages therefore Elsanta in summertime needs good watering or drop irrigation.
The grade with firmness resists to many typical problems of strawberry, in particular fungal. Elsanta is seldom struck by gray decay and spottiness, at the same time she often suffers from mealy dew. Weak spot of grade – root system. At non-compliance with agrotechnology of cultivation the gentle backs of strawberry can begin to rot.
Elsanta breeds mustache or sockets. It can be grown up both in the open ground, and in greenhouses. In general Elsanta – one of undemanding grades of Victoria with optimum tastes. It is popular with gardeners. Many who tried to cultivate other grades of strawberry came back later to Elsanta.
