GVL: what is it?

Interpretation of abbreviation of GVL — "gypsum-fiber leaf". It is the sheet finishing material used in construction in rooms. GVL is very similar on all the known gypsum cardboard (HL).

GVL - what is it

Gypsum cardboard represents the plaster board 9.5 or 12 mm thick which is pasted over on both sides with cardboard which performs function of the reinforcing layer. GVL is made of plaster knitting with addition of fibers of the fluffed-up waste paper which are uniformly distributed on all volume of material. These fibers perform the same reinforcing function, as cardboard layers. But as they penetrate all volume of GVL, is gipsovolokno stronger.

GVL is used in the same purposes, as gypsum cardboard: construction of partitions, false ceilings, covering and alignment of walls, etc. Besides, GVL is applied to the device of bulk floors on "dry tie" technology where gypsum plasterboards are not used.

Advantages of GVL

GVL has all advantages of the sheet materials made on the basis of plaster:

  • use of sheet materials increases labor productivity and reduces construction terms (area of standard sheet of 3 m²);
  • "wet" processes — plaster, filling of tie, etc. are excluded;
  • GVL surface after the minimum preparation is suitable for finishing by all finishing materials: it is pasted over with wall-paper, revetted with tile, painted;
  • material "breathes" — regulates humidity indoors and improves microclimate;
  • plaster — natural and ecologically safe material.

Besides, in comparison with GVL gypsum cardboard has the increased durability and fire resistance.

Features of work with GVL

  • GVL is cut more difficultly, than gypsum cardboard.
  • For fastening of GVL it is recommended to use special screws with milling head. Normal self-tapping screws for HL split material.
  • The surface of plate is ground and processed by hydrofobiziruyushchy structures. Therefore on it acrylic primers badly lay down: it is necessary to ground carefully, in several layers.
  • Solution of normal tiled glue gives alkaline reaction and destroys plaster of which GVL is made. Therefore facing from ceramic tile with use of such glue begins to peel off soon. It is necessary to use special tiled glue for GVL.
  • The mass of sheets GVL are almost twice more, than at HL of the similar size: 45 kg against 24 kg. It should be considered, planning transportation and loading of material.

It is also worth noting that gypsum-fiber sheets are about one and a half times more expensive plasterboard than the same size.

Recommendations about application

The listed properties and features of GVL allow to recommend it as gypsum cardboard alternative where increased requirements to durability and fire resistance of designs are imposed: in child care facilities, in warehouses, in public buildings, etc.

In the apartment GVL will be suitable for finishing of walls in corridors, game rooms, for the device of floors on "dry tie" technology.

In owner-occupied dwellings of GVL it is recommended for boiler rooms, garages, workshops, etc., that is in rooms with the increased fire hazard.
