The good harvest of potatoes is impossible without active fight against weeds which are less whimsical to development conditions, than cultural plants. Therefore without the aid of the person and herbicides it is hardly worth counting on cultivation of full-fledged tubers.
Herbicides for potatoes: pros and cons
Weeds not only are serious hindrance at cultivation of potatoes, harvesting; weed plants far not to the best affect quality of seeds and spoil commodity qualities of so popular vegetable. But also it is not all: feeling freely, weed plants form over time peculiar incubator in which insects wreckers and other causative agents of diseases of plants begin to develop. Also it should be taken into account that weeds do not promote airing of potatoes in any way, and it is already fraught with other misfortune – phytophthora.
Opponents of chemical treatment claim that since potatoes are row-crop culture, it is quite possible to be limited to machining. But here too there are negative sides: constant plowing-up of the soil leads to its siccation, there is risk of transfer of viral infections. Besides there are no guarantees that when using the equipment the tops of vegetable, root system will not be damaged. Therefore optimal variant use of herbicides together with the sparing mechanical working is considered.
Features of use of herbicides
Optimum temperature for introduction of herbicides – 15-25C. The efficiency of processing will decrease if temperature is lower or precipitation will drop out (4-8 hours later). Death of weeds comes in few weeks from the moment of spraying. To gain the maximum effect of use, it is necessary to meet the following conditions: - tubers have to be put rather deeply that herbicides did not reach potato sprouts; - crests have to settle already; - it is necessary to spray the humidified soil having lumpy, friable structure (that herbicides were distributed evenly) On potatoes, the victim of frosts, wreckers or diseases influence of herbicides will be minimum; in this case their application can hardly be considered justified. Also it should be taken into account potatoes grade; some of its types painfully react on, lagging behind in growth, development, - anomalies in tubers and the sheet device as a result appear. For introduction of herbicides in big squares usually use the sprayers installed on trailers. Farms are able to afford to employ agricultural aviation more richly. Herbicides in itself belong to substances, having small or average toxicity. But nevertheless it is recommended to observe the same safety measures, as at introduction of pesticides.
