The Bordeaux liquid is one of the most effective fungicides (chemicals) applied to protection of garden plants against various fungal diseases. At the correct dosage this medicine is not toxic for plants and for useful insects.
It is known that practically all garden plants and vegetable cultures are subject to a number of fungal diseases which are capable not only to destroy all harvest, but also to do to plants considerable harm. For this reason most of owners of personal plots (especially in the spring) literally sweep away from shelves of agricultural shops the most popular means – the Bordeaux liquid.
The Bordeaux liquid – extremely effective, besides very inexpensive medicine from which it is possible to prepare working mix in only a few minutes. Spring processing of plants this means is the most productive therefore it is necessary to make spraying in two stages – in the early spring (during dormant period of plants) and during the vegetative period.
Preventive processing of garden and garden cultures can be made throughout all spring and summer season. However it is necessary to remember that the Bordeaux liquid is after all chemical and its excessive use can be dangerous to the plant and to human health. To minimize all risks, it is necessary to adhere to the following principles: the last processing of trees (apple-trees, pears, plums and others) should be made in 28-30 days prior to harvesting, processing of vegetable cultures (tomatoes, pepper, cucumbers) – in 12-14 days prior to harvesting.
Two components will be necessary for preparation of the Bordeaux liquid: 1 kg of copper vitriol and 1 kg of lime. At first it is necessary to dissolve all amount of copper vitriol in 50 liters of cold water. Important: it is possible to use for solution only wooden or plastic tanks. After solution is ready, it is possible to be engaged in lime. For a start it is necessary to dissolve lime in 10 liters of cold water then to dilute the received mix with 50 more liters of water. It is necessary to mix both components accurately and carefully. For this purpose it is necessary to pour in vitriol solution in lime solution thin stream, at the same time stirring slowly with mix. In consequence of chemical reaction which comes when mixing vitriol and lime temperature of mix will grow. It is possible to start spraying only after its full cooling. It is necessary to tell that processing of trees and plants the Bordeaux liquid is effective at fight against many fungal diseases: phytophthora (tomatoes, potatoes), peronosporozy (onions, cucumber), anthracnose (cucumber), scab (apple-tree), bacterial cancer (peach, cherry, sweet cherry, apple-tree), perforated spottiness (apricot, cherry, sweet cherry) and other infections. For work on processing of plants the Bordeaux liquid it is necessary to use the special sprayer on 3-5 liters which can be got in any agricultural shop. For the purpose of observance of safety measures it is necessary to work only in respirator or in protective bandage.
