1. Before starting whitewashing, surely wash ceiling by means of rag and warm soapsuds. Even if it does not seem to you dirty, the dust which has stuck to it in years since the last repair will not allow to be linked by whitewash to surface and will promote peeling of paint after drying.
2. Survey ceiling on availability of cracks and other defects, everything them needs to be eliminated by means of putty.
