Clematises – favourites of many gardeners. However these gentle flowers should help to transfer winter that in the spring they continued to decorate with themselves your garden.

Before covering clematises for the winter, it is necessary to prepare them. The clematises blossoming on escapes of the first year, that is blossoming since June on the first half of August cut off, having left two knots from the earth. Under each of plants it is necessary to pour on bucket of humus and to cover them. Young plants cover with the inverted flowerpots, and from above fill up with dry fir-tree fir twigs, sawdust, shavings, etc. Big plants instead of pot cover with the inverted boxes and also fill up them.

The clematises blossoming on escapes of last year (since August or later) cut off at the height of 1 meter from the earth. The cut-off stalks are removed from support and stacked on fir twigs, from above they are also covered with fir twigs and add layer of leaves not less than 20 centimeters thick. For protection against dampness on shelters pull film.

Before winter it is necessary to prepare the place for spring planting of clematises. It has to be the solar place, it is possible with small shadowing for the hottest time of day. It is good to choose for this purpose the western or east walls of the house (so on the southern wall there will be no shadow, and on northern – the sun), or gazebo in garden. It is desirable that this place was not windy as wind is capable to break stalks of clematises. Clematises have powerful root system from set of the thick, deeply getting roots therefore it is necessary to treat especially carefully the choice of the soil for them. It has to be water-permeable, friable, high-fertile, with neutral or slightly alkaline environment. The site under planting of clematises has to be well trained, is not closer than 1 meter from surface to arrangement of underground waters. Avoid clay, sour and crude soils as on them clematises will not be able to grow. Under landing of clematises the way needs to be paved: to dig out holes the sizes not less than sixty centimeters in depth and with perimeter of 60х60 centimeters. Holes should be filled with mix of the earth which is taken out from them with compost or humus, sand and mineral fertilizers. It is necessary to fill holes not to the very top, and to leave about 10 centimeters. Such way allows to cover correctly clematises for the winter, and they will be ready to meeting of frosts.
