1. Lime is used when whitewashing, added to finishing and masonry mortars, silicate concrete. Its wrong clearing can lead to the fact that in substance there will be outstanding particles capable to lead to whitewashing flaking, swelling and destruction of plaster. One of the most important indicators of lime paste is its density, on it it is possible to judge percentage in ready-made product of lime and water.

2. To determine density of lime paste, at first weigh metal vessel of 1 liter and write down result of weighing. After that fill it to the brim with lime paste and again weigh. Write down the received result.

3. Now learn the weight of lime paste in vessel, for this purpose subtract from the second result the first (the mass of empty vessel). Let's say the mass of capacity is equal to 1 kg, and its weight with 1 liter of lime paste – 2.35 kg. Means, the mass of contents of capacity is equal to 1.35 kg.

4. Determine density of lime paste. It is known that it is equal to the relation of mass of substance to its volume. From this it follows that it is necessary 1.35 to separate into 1 (or 1350 on 1000 if to carry out calculations in grams and milliliters). The answer – density of lime paste in this example is equal 1.35 kg/l, or 1350 kg in cubic meter.

5. What does tell the received result about? The quality of lime paste is determined by its density according to standards for calcic and magnesian types of lime. For calcic lime: 1300 g/l – the first grade; 1350 g/l – the second grade; 1400 g/l – the third grade; 1450 g/l and above – withdrawal.

6. For magnesian lime: 1300-1350 g/l – the first grade; 1400 g/l – the second grade; 1450 g/l – the third grade; 1500 g/l and above – withdrawal.

7. Having compared the yielded and received results of calculations given above, it is possible to draw conclusion that the lime paste belongs to the second grade if calcic lime was used, and to the first if took magnesian raw product.
