At the height of summer and garden season of the most relevant there is problem of preservation of harvest from wreckers. The greatest harm is done by Colorado beetle – its incredibly gluttonous larvae are capable to destroy potato shoots for few days and to completely deprive of the gardener of harvest.
Colorado beetle – the malicious wrecker
Time of maturing of larvae depends on ambient temperature. On average they massively leave in 7-14 days after the female of bug has laid eggs. At first larvae sit from below leaf and gnaw pulp nearby, gradually creep away on all plant, eating leaves completely literally within several days, leaving only thick veins.
All new chemical means for fight against this wrecker as the bug very quickly gets used to effect of old poisons annually are available for sale and they are incapable to cope with it. In specialized shops it is possible to choose medicine on the taste, but the greatest efficiency "Commodore", Corrado, "Karate" and so forth have. Not all are ready to use chemicals in fight against this wrecker, fairly being afraid that they can negatively affect quality of harvest. These fears are not deprived of the bases therefore it is necessary to follow strictly the instruction on medicine and to take the appropriate measures of precaution.
National ways of fight against Colorado beetle
Besides chemical treatment, national methods are very effective and quite safe: - right after spring plowing to spread out the cut potatoes previously wetted in solution of strong urea across the field. Bugs are massively flown and quickly perish from such treat. If regularly once a week to repeat this reception, it is possible to reduce significantly the number of the wrecker in kitchen garden. Urea can be replaced with any other means from wreckers; - manual gathering of bugs. In this case a lot of free time and patience as it is necessary to collect larvae as often as possible will be required. It is also necessary to examine bottom side of leaves and to destroy layings. However, if the plottage big or the gardener has no such opportunity, additional treatment will be required; - it is considered that smells of some plants can frighten off bug. Treat them fennel, devyasit, garlic, calendula, wormwood. Agronomists advise to land them near landings of potatoes; - water infusions and broths of these plants and also broth of bitter pepper, tobacco and wood ashes are effective. On 200 gr to take wormwood glass of wood ashes, to fill in with boiled water (10 l) and to insist 3 hours. Ready broth should be filtered, added the laundry soap (50 g) dissolved in water and to spray landings. It is possible that during the season it is necessary to carry out numerous processing of potatoes, depending on weather and activity of bugs.
