How to grow up asparagus from seeds

The asparagus — dvudomny culture, at it is both men's, and female plants. At cultivation of asparagus it is necessary to plant only men's plants, they are more productive. Women's use for receiving seeds and fruits then they are discarded.

Instruction

1. Seedling of asparagus is grown up in the open ground. Seeds sow when the soil gets warm to +10-15os. In forest-steppe strip it corresponds to the second or third decade of May. Before crops the seeds need to be wetted in warm water for 2-3 days, it should be changed daily. After that seeds dry to condition of flowability.

2. For cultivation of asparagus use biennial seedling as in this case it is possible to select men's plants which are more productive. In the first female and men's copies it is difficult to distinguish year of life from each other, they grow approximately equal by the size.

3. Seeds of asparagus sow on depth of 3 cm with row-spacings 30-40 cm. The norm of seeding is 5-10 g on 10 sq.m. In 2-3 weeks after crops, shoots appear, thin out them at distance 10-12 cm from each other when they grow to 8-10 cm.

4. Seedlings need to be watered and loosened in due time row-spacings, to delete weeds and to do fertilizing by phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, bird's dung or dung water. Fertilizers are introduced by 1-2 times during the season, their approximate expense has to make 0.2-0.3 l on 1 m of row.

5. In the fall the rhizome is formed and also several stalks from 25 to 40 cm high appear. Plant cut off before frosts, leaving 10 cm over the surface of the soil, the rhizome is covered with soil 30-40 cm high. To prevent destruction by frost of plants, they are in addition covered with sphere of humus of 5-8 cm in size.

6. It is necessary to dig over the soil at depth of 45-50 cm in the fall, and in the spring — to loosen the site and to cut furrow of 25-35 cm in depth, the distance between them has to make 100-120 cm. In furrows fill organomineral mix — 10 g of superphosphate, 5 g of potash salt and 15-20 kg of humus on 1 m of row. Mix is covered from above with soil layer about 10 cm thick.

7. In the spring biennial seedling is dug out and replaced to the constant place of growth. The recommended landing terms — from May 1 to May 15. Before disembarkation the roots shorten, leaving about 3-4 cm. The distance between plants has to make 30-35 cm. After jumping it is necessary to humidify the soil well.

8. The asparagus yields harvest only for the third year, as a rule, in April or at the beginning of May. Before it is necessary to loosen systematically row-spacings, to delete weeds and to do fertilizing by nitrogen fertilizers at the rate of 25 g on 1 sq.m. It is necessary to dig over row-spacings in the fall, to cut off the dried stalks, and for the winter to cover rows with layer of humus 5-7 cm high.
