The gooseberry is known in Russia for a long time. The first certificates on cultivation of this culture lovingly called in the people northern grapes ascend by the 15th century. Today it is impossible to find practically any garden or the seasonal dacha in Russia in which was not would like one bush of gooseberry. At the correct cultivation and leaving the gooseberry can annually yield abundant harvest of berries which perfectly are suitable both for the fresh use, and for various preparations.

Instruction

1. That cultivation gooseberry was successful, it is necessary to begin with the choice of the suitable place and the soil. When choosing the place for gooseberry bushes on the site pay attention that it cannot be landed in low-lying, peat places. The increased humidity will provoke appearance of diseases, such as mealy dew and to promote rotting of roots. The gooseberry does not transfer stagnant waters at all therefore choose for it on the site of the place higher.

2. The soil for landing of gooseberry has to be friable and cleared of weeds. It is the best of all to plant young bushes on the places before occupied by such cultures as beet, potatoes, peas or beans. The gooseberry will well develop also after crops of lupine. And pay attention that it is culture drought-resistant and shade-enduring therefore saplings can be placed also on rather shady places.

3. When landing young bush first of all pave the way for it. It becomes in two stages: at first band preparation of the soil, then directly landing. For band preparation allocate strip of the earth 2-3 meters long and 1 meter wide, carefully clear it of weeds, introduce humus, mineral fertilizers and deeply dig over the earth.

4. Layers of gooseberry land at distance about 1.5-1.8 meters from each other. For landing dig out landing holes about 20 cm in depth and introduce in them additional mineral fertilizers. Do not put fresh manure on bottom of landing holes – it can cause burns of young roots and bushes will badly develop. The gooseberry generally breeds horizontal layers. For landing take them only from one-year gain.

5. During the landing and charge of sapling you watch that tops of side escapes were not filled up, otherwise it will interfere with their growth. Increase embankment layer gradually, but no more than 20 cm, but no more than that, otherwise you will just block access of air to saplings and will interfere with formation of new roots.

6. After landing of saplings the basic care behind young gooseberry consists generally in timely watering and regular scarification around bushes. Pay attention that though in the first one or two years of the development the gooseberry is occupied only by part reserved for it space, it is not necessary to occupy with other cultures free sites all the same. It can interfere with the correct development of bushes.

7. If before landing the way has been well paved and filled, in the first two years it is possible not to introduce additional fertilizers and to begin to feed up gooseberry only since 3-4 of its development. For fertilizing compost and cow manure is used. Keep in mind that not rerotting fresh manure can cause burns of plants therefore it is better for it to give previously time to have a complete rest in compost heap with humus.
