Landing of potatoes and further care for it - the hard business demanding considerable physical force and time. The shovel, chopper, fertilizers, the sprayer with medicines against phytophthora and Colorado beetle - everything know that it is the minimum set of any summer resident if he wants to indulge himself with tasty tubers. Whether and minimum? Not at all! The most minimum set for cultivation of potatoes is shovel, it is a little soil and lack of problem with utilization of mowed lawn grass.
It is required to you
- - The site of lawn or virgin soil which is well lit (for a start it is possible to experiment with small area, for example 2 by 2 meters);
- - on the specified area of 25 seed potatoes (it is desirable early ripening grades, for example, Red Scarlett, Zhukovsky, Karatop);
- - bucket of fertile soil or compost;
- - shovel;
- - all lawn grass mown during the season and also all weeds from beds (at the shortage of the weeds it is possible to use neighbour's).
Instruction
1. During from the beginning to the end May mark the site for landing of potatoes. It can be lawn, the bed which has grown with weeds, untilled virgin soil. Impose it on perimeter with rods or rope - it is so more convenient to be guided at apportion of tubers. The place has to be solar and also if necessary available to watering in hot summer.
2. Mark place shovel tip for laying of tubers according to scheme 40 sm*40 see. That is 25 seed tubers will be located on the area of 4 sq.m (2*2).
3. Make in places of marking shovel small holes of 4-5 cm in depth (that there potato was located) and spread out tubers. Slightly powder them with the prepared compost (approximately on big handful on each tuber).
4. Fill up the landed potatoes with layer of mowed grass, weeds, straw 10 cm high. If by the time of landing there is yet no opportunity to mow grass, it is possible to leave potatoes under compost layer to the first hay crop.
5. Regularly fill up grass on potato bed, layer by layer. The organic chemistry quickly will rot through from below and to settle considerably. It is important not to allow reduction of grass ""pillow"" less than up to 20 cm that the ripening tubers did not turn green on light, did not dry up and did not overheat.
6. At hot and dry weather water potatoes. Do not allow excessive overwetting of bed, otherwise slugs in large number will divorce.
7. In month potatoes will increase remarkable bushes with healthy and powerful foliage, will blossom. After blossoming it is possible to raise grass and to carefully choose from under it large young potatoes, leaving small tubers to ripen.
8. At the beginning of August potatoes can be removed. For this purpose remove layer of grass and collect tubers. Part from stolon can go to the soil, they are slightly undermined shovel. At this way the harvest averages 5-8 tubers of the different size from one landed potato.
