Walnut can be grown up much to the north of primordial places of growth, in the last decades it was succeeded to remove its frost-resistant grades. For the winter the plant is bent down and in addition filled up with snow therefore for convenience of the shelter recommend to grow up walnut in creeping form.
Reproduction
Walnut is made multiple copies shanks or layers, seeds or inoculation. Reproduction by seeds — the easiest way. For this purpose it is necessary to select seeds of large-fruited, high-yielding and frost-resistant trees.
The viability of seeds remains only one year. The walnut intended for autumn crops can be sown without drying. Dig out bed of 30-40 cm in depth, spread seeds in grooves of 7-9 cm in depth at distance of 15-20 cm among and 50-60 cm between ranks. After that the soil is condensed, and then covered fallen down sheet or straw, in the winter — snow.
Shoots will appear in the middle of May of the next year, during the summer the saplings will grow up up to 30 cm and form good root system. If the winter was low-snow with the alternating hard frosts and thaw, autumn crops can be unsuccessful. It is more reliable to do spring crops, however it will demand accurate storage of seeds. It is the best of all to put nuts in one layer in wooden boxes, to powder with damp sand and to put to the cool place where temperature is close to 0 °C. One one or one and a half months prior to crops the boxes rearrange to the room where +5-7 °C are supported. For increase in air humidity close leave water in open capacity. For landing of walnut it is the best of all to choose the semi-shaded places. At spring crops among it is necessary to increase distance to 30 cm, depth of seal has to be 7-9 cm. If nut is landed on the constant place of growth, dig out hole about 1 m in depth, add to it several buckets of compost then in the prepared place plant 3-4 nuts. Further it is necessary to leave the best plant. Nuts place triangle or square which party is equal to 20-25 cm, after landing water. Seedlings land in the spring, and prepare landing hole in the fall. On 2/3 it fill with carefully moved mix of humus, fertile soil and peat in proportion 1:1:1 and also introduce mineral fertilizers.

Further care for plant includes regular removal of weeds, mulching and watering in droughty years. Walnut well grows almost on all soils, except heavy clay, too damp and boggy. Recommend to land it in the solar, well protected from wind places. At strong shadowing the young trees can die. Walnut is very sympathetic on heat and light. Landings in lowlands are doomed to failure as in them cold water constantly accumulates and stands. If when landing walnut the recommended fertilizers have been added, the tree will be provided with necessary substances the next 3-5 years. After this term it is necessary to bring 3-6 kg of the rerotting manure or humus on 1 sq.m and also phosphoric and potash fertilizers of times in 2-3 years.
