Currant – the queen of garden: it has fragrant, tasty and useful berries, and leaves – the real well of vitamins and biologically active agents. But to reap rich crop of currant, it is necessary to look after this plant correctly, and especially in the spring.

Instruction

1. For currant the friable damp soil is ideal therefore regularly (2-3 times a week) loosen the earth: do not assume that the crust was formed and weeds grew. Remember that the active root system of this plant is located in top soil therefore loosen the earth around bush very accurately (the maximum depth – 6-8 cm). Moisture will better remain if you cover the soil around currant with organic material – peat, in this case it will be possible to loosen the earth less often.

2. Currant – hygrophilous plant. If currant does not receive enough moisture, it leads to delay of its growth, and during forming and filling in of fruits – to fall of berries. It is abundant water plant during intensive growth, during education and maturing of fruits and also after harvesting. At distance of 30-40 cm from branches of bush make grooves or grooves (depth of 10-15 cm), in them and fill in water.

3. In the spring (even before awakening of the first kidneys) execute cutting of bush. The first four years at scrap of blackcurrant leave only 4-5 branches, and cut off the others. As for red currant, leave only 3-4 branches. When the plant reaches five-year age, remove all old branches. Thanks to it new, strong radical escapes will grow from underground part of bush (they are called still renewal escapes).

4. When on currant kidneys appear, attentively examine plant. The fact is that pincers winter in kidneys, and in the spring the female in the shelter begins to lay eggs. If in time not to take measure, by the time of blossoming, currant will become covered by whitish raid. Kidneys in which ticks have lodged are deformed: they are similar to small heads of cabbage. Tear off big-bellied kidneys and burn them, otherwise in few weeks the tick will creep away on all garden.

5. During blossoming feed up plant. For this purpose on 10 l of water take 1 tablespoon of sulfate of potassium and 2 tablespoons of the Rossa fertilizer. Usually on 1 bush of currant 20 l of fertilizing are necessary. When berries only begin to be tied, in 20 l of water dissolve 4 tablespoons of Effekton and feed up this solution currant. In 10 days weed extra root fertilizing (spraying) of plant: in 10 l of water dissolve 1-2 tablespoons of the Rossa fertilizer.
