Glass is very fragile material. Sometimes there is need to make in it opening. It demands knowledge of how to make it also skill of work with the drilling equipment. The opening can be necessary, for example, at production of the lamp from wine bottle when it is necessary to get wire inside through its wall. At the moment there are several ways to create openings, without having damaged glass.
Instruction
1. Take hard-alloy pen drill and fix in the boss of electric drill. Set the mode of average turnovers. If you want to drill nonplanar glass, for example, bottle wall, then previously several times wind it with painting adhesive tape in two-three turns around the place of expected opening, having planned it pencil. Depending on glass thickness, process of drilling can take up to fifteen minutes. At the same time you hold drill exactly, without allowing its beating. Process represents material scraping by cone of pen drill. Regularly moisten drill, dipping it, for example, into water or in mix of equal proportions of camphor and turpentine, differently receive overheating and cracking in the place of drilling.
2. If it is necessary to drill plane face glass, then prepare for this purpose the place on flat surface, for example, on table. Enclose soft material, fabric under glass. Edges of glass should not go beyond table. For degreasing process alcohol or acetone the place of expected opening and begin to drill. Turns of drill are similar to the last way. Periodically drip turpentine in the drilled-out place.
3. The third way assumes to do without mechanical influences, and to use fusion of fusible metals, for example, of solder or lead. To similarly last way degrease the place of drilling. Fill on it wet sand height in several centimeters that the hill was formed. Take the sharpened stick which corresponds on the end to diameter of expected opening and make in sand small funnel for fusion flooding. Fill in in it the warmed solder, wait couple of minutes then eliminate sand from glass and remove the stiffened metal cone. It has melted opening in glass. This way the fastest. Nevertheless, not superfluous will be to test it, to be trained on unnecessary piece of glass of similar thickness.
