Steel panel radiators are some of the most modern heating designs. They differ in attractive exterior and also high heat conduction. At the same time the cost of similar systems remains rather high therefore if desired and availability of certain skills they can be made by own efforts.

Design features of panel radiators

Panel radiators are intended for work in the central heating systems connected to circulating pump where the heat carrier is water. Also their installation in systems with natural circulation is allowed, however at the same time hydraulic resistance can increase considerably. Radiators consist of several metal pipes forming uniform chain. Devices are screwed or welded on the highway and equipped with closing valves. Externally they take cover metal sheets which form the panelized construction providing free circulation of warm air.

The factory models of panel radiators manufactured as heating systems for apartments and owner-occupied dwellings are characterized by large number small, but at the same time enough considerable nuances which cannot almost be considered and implemented in house conditions. Therefore it is possible to manufacture the hands only the battery, small by the sizes, which can be used to heating of garage and semibasement rooms.

Preparation for work

Important point is availability of skills of performance of welding without which to assemble the panel thermal radiator it will not turn out. Also the following consumables and the equipment will be necessary for you for production of design:

  • the welding machine with electrodes;
  • Bulgarian;
  • water throughput rectangular pipe about a meter long and with a section about 0.2 m;
  • two steel pipes with a diameter of 0.1 m and 0.8-1 m long;
  • two sgon of the necessary diameter;
  • two steel sheets 3 mm thick, 0.1 m wide and 0.8 m long.

Length of water throughput pipe should be chosen, proceeding from the desirable size of radiator. For example, there will be quite enough meter product for preparation of 5-6 small rectangular pipes which will make battery framework. It will be enough for heating small on room space. At the same time at cost materials will manage about 2-3 times less, than purchase of ready radiator. If you want to achieve the maximum heat emission from product, it is possible to execute some additional calculations.

Useful calculations

For determination of the suitable size of future battery it is worth being guided by parameters of typical factory radiator from cast iron. For example, the product on ten registers contains in itself about 1.5 l of heating liquid. Power of each register is about 160 watts. As a result the self-made battery of panelized construction of standard dimensions has to contain in itself at least 14.5 l of liquid.

Considering that thin rectangular pipes from steel which will go for production of radiator, have the smaller size, than at pig-iron design, it is important to select products with diameter not less than 20-30 cm. As a result the total area of radiator will actually correspond to pig-iron analog, and the received product will be able to contain in itself the necessary volume of working liquid. Do not neglect these calculations, otherwise the self-made radiator can just burst at connection to the heathighway.

Important points

By preparation of materials for production of the battery it is necessary to take their technical parameters into account. It is necessary to count product power taking into account the next moments:

  • battery weight;
  • weight of working liquid;
  • total area of the device;
  • heat conduction.

In comparison with batteries from cast iron the steel panel radiators differ in smaller heat emission, however it is important to remember that the sheets which are welded among themselves from thin steel which form panels will promote increase in power of system. At will it is possible to use additional sheets with furring for covering of edges and the top area of radiator at the expense of what the design will find complete look.

Production of heating radiator

For receiving effective and qualitative product in the course of works it is important to follow system of the technology instruction. The main stages will be the following:

  • Mark water throughput rectangular pipe on necessary quantity of pieces and cut it by means of the Bulgarian.
  • Plan on each of two big steel pipes of position of joint with water throughput pieces. The last have to settle down evenly and rather densely to each other, forming the framework structure reminding accordion in form. At the same time it is necessary to recede from edges of each pipe on 5-10 cm.
  • Make the welding machine openings in places of fastening of frame pipes and clean them from the melted metal formed after welding.
  • In turn weld frame pieces on position of joints with the main pipes. Products have to be located strictly vertically.

Completion of works

Connection of the remained parts and check of design on durability will become final stage of creation of the panel radiator. Act in the following order:

  • Weld since one end of big pipes of sgona, prepared in advance. Make other ends so that there was no slot left and openings.
  • Arrange radiator on floor and lay on it leaf from metal. Execute adjustment of leaf and mark it so that it did not support edges of the battery. Cut off superfluous by means of the Bulgarian.
  • Repeat the procedure with the second metal sheet which will serve in quality of the back panel of radiator. Using steel scraps, connect both leaves from faces so that the cylindrical design has turned out. It is in addition possible to make or get metal grid of the suitable size for use as cover. The last has to be removable for possibility of cleaning of radiator.

At the end of all main actions the ready design needs to be checked for durability and tightness. Having arranged radiator vertically and having closed one of sgon, fill it with water, then close the second sgon. Establish design on floor and loosen a little. Make sure that there are no leakages, and each constructive part remains on the place. In case of detection of leak repeatedly make the respective sites made poor.

Installation of self-made radiator

Mounting of the radiator made with respect for all norms will not deliver special work. It is important to make the detailed plan of arrangement of radiator of heating taking into account availability of exits to the highway, installations of additional locking devices and temperature regulator only in advance. This procedure will allow to control further work flow and not to make mistakes which can lead to break of system. Remember that the construction can be rather heavy and inconvenient for movement therefore it is necessary to attract 1-2 more people to installation. Besides, some tools will be necessary for you:

  • tape measure for measurements
  • set of wrenches for assembly of design;
  • electric drill with set of drills;
  • pencil;
  • construction level;
  • extension wrench.

After preparation of the equipment it is possible to get to work. At first block water and make sure of tightness of exits of the heathighway. In the presence at the site of new radiator of old devices of heating they need to be dismantled. After that at once level wall surface, cover it with primer and paint if necessary. Remember that after installation of radiator to perform these operations, most likely, it will not turn out any more.

Execute marking of fixtures for radiator and begin mounting of the thermal equipment, being guided on them. Equip couplings on entrance and radiator outlet as soon as it is installed on fixtures. Now prepare thermohead, having installed the special crane and the valve for this purpose. At the same time the crane has to be located on the obratka line, and the valve – directly on entrance to heating appliance. In order to avoid possible leakages surely condense all connections, using the FUM-tape or special sealant.

Make sure of reliability of all connections and start connection of new radiator to the main heating highway. Fill system with working liquid, then open the crane and pit surplus of the collected air. Start the pump connected to the highway to provide heating of heat-conducting liquid. Check work of system at small power and in the absence of any problems involve at full capacity. Make sure that indoors there are no drafts, and there is functioning vent system that the installed equipment provided optimum warming up.
