Decorative reservoirs not only decorate with themselves any landscape, but also create absolutely special area of recreation and rest that is important for seasonal and country dachas. The artificial pond in hot months of year, especially is most valuable if near the house there is no natural lake or the small river. To make pond at the dacha with own hands not so difficult. For this purpose any special materials or professional knowledge are not required, the main thing to observe several basic principles.

1. Arrangement of artificial reservoir should be begun with the choice of the suitable place and determination of the size of future pond. It is the best of all to choose site in the lowermost point of the site, but at the same time to trace that it was well lit with the sun throughout the day. It is important that large trees were not near widely developed kroner. Otherwise their leaves will constantly fall in water, and large roots can seriously break reservoir waterproofing.
2. The size of pond depends on scales of all site and intentions of its owner. The pond with a diameter about 3.5 m and about 100-120 cm in depth is considered classical. But if the site small, it is possible to make reservoir about a meter in size and no more than 50 cm in depth. It is important to remember that if cultivation of any water plants is planned, depth has to be a little more – about 100 cm.
3. Preparation of ditch will be the following step in construction of pond. In fact it is just hole of certain depth with rather equal bottom and walls. The form of ditch can be made practically any. If subsequently use of ready purchased form for waterproofing is supposed, then the ditch has to repeat its lines. If there is no rigid form, it is possible to give to future pond contours of circle, oval, the eight, etc. Walls of ready ditch are cleared of speakers of roots and sharp stones, and the bottom is filled up with thick layer of sand which is well stamped.
4. Creation of good waterproofing is very important stage in arrangement of pond. If the choice is stopped on purchased rigid form, it is important to take care that it has been made of quality material. Cheap plastic will quickly burst and be scattered under the influence of sunlight and temperature drops. The self-made waterproofing is usually done or of concrete, filling in with it bottom and walls ditches, or from the film laid in several layers. For flexible waterproofing it is necessary to choose PVC film or if the budget, butylrubber rubber allows. Similar material will be able to serve from 15 to 30 years. Film cover bottom and walls of ditch, leaving at the edges small allowances for fixing.
5. The ready pond is decorated at the edges by natural materials: large cobble-stones, plants, it is faced by the turf. For replenishment it is good to carry out by fresh water to twig artificial streamlet which edges can also be imposed with natural stone. The bottom can be decorated various stones (surely with stupid edges) and the water plants planted in baskets or small water-permeable tanks. The most suitable flowers are water water-lilies (nimfea) which are beautifully covering water surface.
