The French curtain has the second name – "marchioness". The special appeal of such curtains is concluded in easy negligence, disorder of large number of folds. The marchioness looks picturesquely, naturally, she as if radiates heat of hands of the master therefore aspiration to absolute mechanicalness, mathematically the exact regularity of mortgaging of folds fails here.
- - fabric for curtain (batiste, to madapola, silk or other fine easily draped fabrics white or cream colored)
- - threads in tone;
- - thin cords in tone.
- - plastic or metal rings of two diameters: 0.5 cm and 1.5 cm;
- - hook for fixing of long cords;
- - furniture nails;
- - wooden level 5-8 cm wide and length equal to window opening minus 1 cm;
- - fixture for level and drill.
1. Cut out fabric on strips from which the curtain will be sewed. Width of each section in the suspended look fluctuates from 25 to 40 cm therefore width of panel have to be one third more. So, if you have chosen width of ready panels of equal 40 cm, width of pattern has to be equal to 60 cm. Length of panels taking into account assembly has to be twice more, than length of the marchioness who is brought together on cords.
2. You pristrochit the cut-off panels to each other and stitch lengthways on the sewing machine zaposhivny seam. The joint gap width has to be such that it was convenient to insert cord for forming of folds into it /
3. Along the lower edge you pristrochit frill. It can be the main fabric or fabric partner collected in small folds. Often for registration of the lower edge of the marchioness use fringe or lace with scalloped edge.
4. By means of safety pin pass cords throughout all vertical zaposhivochny joints. Length of cords is equal to window height. Strong sew the ends of cords to edges of curtain. As length of cords is twice shorter, than the curtain length, your preparation will be completely collected in superficial folds.
5. Spread curtain on big table or on floor and fix the ends of zaposhivochny seams. Hands evenly distribute folds of each section along the passed cords. Tack folds to cords manually. Use threads in tone of fabric.
6. Along seams sew small plastic or metal rings at distance of 15-20 cm from each other. Through each number of ringlets stretch long cords. Length of each cord is equal to the double length of collected curtain plus width of window opening. Tie small cargoes to the ringlets sewn to the lower edge. It can be special curtain weighting compounds or sacks with sand. It needs to be made that the curtain easily fell.
7. Envelop adjusting level fabric and fix by furniture carnations. Establish it in window opening by means of holders and self-tapping screws. If you want to establish the marchioness over window opening, the level has to be 10 cm wider than window opening.
8. Attach curtain to adjusting level by means of furniture tacks so that width of each section was reduced by third. That is, if the panel has width of 60 cm, then attachment of this site of curtain on bar requires 40 cm. Collect surplus of fabric between seams by small folds and also fix by carnations. At such fastening some sagging is formed, at the expense of it the top of each section of drapery takes the form of the first wavy fold.
9. Straighten all panels. Make sure that the curtain hangs exactly.
10. Opposite to each chain of rings to level fix big plastic rings. On the end of level one more auxiliary ring. Insert the free ends of long cords into rings, stretch to auxiliary ring and pass through through it. From auxiliary ring the tension cord has to pass the most distant through all rings attached to level to exclude sagging. The following cord - through all rings, excepting the most distant. And so on.
11. Fasten all long cords among themselves after exit from auxiliary ring, having tied into knot. Lower them along curtain and fix on the special hook screwed near windowsill.
