How to polish lacquered surface

Polishing of lacquered surface adds to product high luster and smoothness. It is fine opportunity to update old cabinet furniture, to inhale in it new life. To perform restoration works, it is necessary to stock up with quality materials. For the maximum maintaining texture of wood the skilled masters use special liquid – joiner's polish which is spirit solution of shellac.

It is required to you

  • - polish;
  • - pemzo-wax structure;
  • - cloth;
  • - tampon;
  • - water;
  • - rags and sponges;
  • - planed board sampler;
  • - vaseline or vegetable oil.

Instruction

1. Pick up polish of the necessary color, depending on color of wooden product. Mixing different components of polish, it is possible to achieve shade from classical henna-red (shellac and alcohol 1:4) to colourless (the bleached shellac and alcohol 1:5).

2. Working liquid can be prepared independently. For this purpose in advance dissolve the purified shellac in alcohol. Add small amount of benzene to the received mix, stir up solution and leave for day.

3. Merge top layer of liquid, trying not to shake up muddy deposit. Filter working mix through funnel and the sheet of filter paper – polish is ready.

4. Start grinding of the varnished product by special pemzo-wax structure. It can also be made in house conditions: sift store powder of pumice through sieve from silk fabric, then pour into the melted natural wax and vigorously stir.

5. Fold double piece of cloth fabric and begin to grind varnish, regularly moistening rag in the received abrasive structure. Do slight circular motions until all product becomes absolutely smooth.

6. Wash away pumice clear water and foam sponge and wipe with dry rags. Before polishing warm up all ground surface, having rubbed it with cloth.

7. Make tampon for polishing. One its cover has to be from rough canvas, another – from soft flannel. Inside put degreased lump of natural wool or cotton wool. Choose the size of adaptation individually, depending on the area of product.

8. Unroll tampon, pour polish on its soft filler and again contract woven covers. When wool or cotton wool become impregnated with the polishing structure, carry out by tampon on sample from planed board. Cloth saturation degree polish is optimum if at you the equal, thin and quickly drying dabs lay down. They not in which case should not spread!

9. Apply on the outer working end of tampon of a little vaseline or vegetable oil – then it will better slide on product and will not stick.

10. Start varnish polish. At the first stage do small circular motions from left to right. Then move tampon on the following site, without tearing off hand, and begin to polish furniture in the opposite direction. When processing edges stretch tampon on wavy, in a straight line.

11. Let's the first layer of polish dry completely. At temperature from 18 to 20 degrees it can occur approximately in 3-6 hours. When the surface is ready to repeated processing, again apply on it polish. Do fast movements – zigzag, longitudinal, cross, - occupying big sites.

12. Dry furniture surface within 6 — 12 hours, then carry out final polishing of varnish. On 1 sq.m of wood you will need about 300 — 400 g of shellac polish.
