Preparation of fertilizer from egg shell does not demand special skills because it consists in crushing of the dried waste from processing of eggs. It is much more important to keep crude shell that it has not deteriorated during the winter and it was suitable for entering into the soil.
Besides that the egg shell for 94% consists of calcium carbonate, it contains 27 various microelements: silicon, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, zinc, nitrogen and other components from Mendeleyev's table. It is more necessary for "adult" plants, than seeds or young shoots which growth from excess of calcium can only be delayed.
Not to do much harm to the soil and plants and to derive benefit maximum from the remains of eggs, it is important to know some rules of storage and preliminary preparation of shell. Both the boiled, and crude egg shell is used, but from crude there is much more advantage as when cooking the considerable share of calcium collapses. Though also the shell from boiled eggs will help to improve structure of the soil. It is important to store correctly shell because in plastic bag, in the presence of residues of protein on internal walls of skorlupka, it quickly will begin to go out. As a result, instead of advantage it is possible to bring harmful bacteria to the soil. It is better to put special capacity for dropping shell. It can be cardboard box or paper bag. It is better to wash away the remained protein under flowing water. In open box the crude shell will soon dry, and it is not necessary to shift it for this purpose. The dried shell is crushed in mortar, the coffee grinder or by means of the hammer. The chosen way depends on quantity of the saved-up product.
Ways of preparation of fertilizer from egg shell
The shell broken into small splinters is recommended to be added to the soil under redigging. It can be scattered on surface in places of landing of cabbage, cucumbers in order to avoid reproduction of slugs. The Istolchenny egg shell in the form of powder can be filled directly in hole. The recommended norm – 2 glasses on square meter. Their dry crushed shell it is possible to prepare liquid fertilizer. For this purpose flour from 5 eggs needs to be filled in with liter of boiled water and to insist, periodically stirring slowly. Time of "maturing" of solution, depending on room temperature, can take 1–2 weeks. Turbidity and unpleasant smell should not frighten, it just and testifies to readiness of fertilizer. The received infusion should be diluted with water by 3 times and to use for watering of plants of times in two weeks. Some gardeners prefer to add large shell directly to barrel with the water intended for watering of beds. As water is constantly used, it does not manage to become rotten, but in 2–3 days of insisting it gets warm and saturated with microelements from egg waste. To reduce acidity of the soil, the egg shell in equal shares with ashes is used. However, a lot of means will be required on all kitchen garden. Two teaspoons of mix will be able to make lime application only of 1 kg of the soil, but if to carry out this procedure from year to year, adding fertilizer to holes, over time the fertility will improve, and the acidity will decrease.
