After autumn collecting seeds of carrots is safely ended, the main task of the gardener – it is correct to keep them. It is necessary in order that next year to have rather qualitative planting stock for greenhouses and beds.

Instruction
1. Beginning preparation of seeds of carrots for storage, first of all, it is necessary to make sure that planting stock of high quality. Seeds need to be examined, sorted visually rejected, not whole, begun to rot or spoiled by insects.
2. Then seeds need to be subjected to disinfection that before storage to destroy in them all harmful bacteria. Disinfection can be carried out by hot water. For this purpose to fill up seeds in thermos, to fill in with hot water with the temperature of +50 °C and to leave for hour. One more way of disinfection before storage – soaking in potassium permanganate. Warm solution of potassium permanganate of dark pink color is prepared and in it seeds for 30-40 minutes are retted.
3. After that it is necessary to dry up seeds of carrots quickly and well as process of maturing of seeds comes to the end only when they completely give moisture. The germ of future plant is concluded in dry cover. And the seeds which only have dried enter condition of rest in which they will be stored all winter.
4. Further, having sorted seeds by the size, it is possible to begin to pack them into in advance prepared fabric sacks or paper bags. It is better not to use polyethylene for packing of seeds because it limits access of air to seeds, and their viability in the course of such storage can decrease. On each bag it is obligatory to specify grade of carrots and date of collecting seeds
5. Bags keep within tanks in which seeds will be stored till next year. For these purposes it is possible to adapt everything that will be prompted by imagination. Beginning from boxes from under footwear and finishing with old ladies' handbag. It is possible to sew sachet with pockets or to use ring binder with the files separated into two parts.
6. The storing place has to have the moderate level of humidity (from 30% to 60%), stable temperature from +12 °C to +16 °C and to be protected from light. In the conditions of the city apartment to create such optimal conditions almost difficult. Therefore if you store seeds in living rooms, place them in the lower boxes of desk, in cabinet, in the lower boxes of dresser. That the source of heat has been most removed from storing place of planting stock. If you have warmed balcony or loggia, it is better to store seeds there.
7. Storage life at seeds of not so big carrots. It is the best of all to use them for landing the next year. As a last resort, it is possible to sow for the second year, but more than two years it is not recommended to store planting stock of carrots.
