How to put root celery

The celery is sowed in the early spring or plant seedling. For its landing choose the fertile neutral soils rich with humus. To receive large root crop, it is regularly necessary to water plant, to loosen the earth and to introduce fertilizers.

Instruction

1. It is the best of all to put celery where before squash, cucumbers, cabbage or potatoes grew. It is impossible to put it on those beds where before it other umbrella were grown up: fennel, parsley, parsnip or carrots. If to seed celery seeds to the open ground, shoots will appear in 15-22 days, they slowly sprout, for this reason the method of jumping of seedling is more effective.

2. For cultivation of celery it is necessary to choose sandy, friable and easy soils with neutral or alkalescent reaction. The earth is prepared in the fall, it is dug over on depth of 20-30 cm, bring 20-30 g of double superphosphate and also 3-4 kg of compost or humus on 1 sq.m. Add 30-40 g of complex mineral fertilizer to it in the spring.

3. At celery very small seeds, do not deepen them to the soil, and only slightly press to surface. Capacity with crops is covered with polyethylene film or glass then put to the warm place where temperature about 20-25 °C is maintained. During germination of seeds the soil has to be damp, it should be sprayed or watered regularly through pallet.

4. When there are shoots, capacity needs to be transferred to the cool place with temperature of 14-16 °C. After forming of 2-3 leaflets, seedlings are thinned out and dive in boxes, leaving between them 4-5 cm. At this time seedling should be watered in process of substrate drying and also to feed up complex fertilizers.

5. In the second half of May seedling is planted to the open ground, she is capable to sustain frosts to -5 °C, celery — plant frigostable. However, if cold weather lasts long, it can lead to formation of peduncle in the first year of life, then it will not be possible to receive good root crops. For growth and development of celery temperature of 18-22 °C is considered optimum.

6. Seedling about 10 cm with row-spacings land at distance 40-50 cm, in process of growth it should be thinned out, removing weak copies. At the end of summer the distance between plants has to be about 25-40 cm. Celery — hygrophilous culture, it follows is regularly abundant to water, using up to 5 l of water on 1 sq.m of landings.

7. Plant two times during the season feed up — in 2 weeks after landing and in 3 weeks later. As a part of fertilizers for root celery potassium has to prevail. Since September it is possible to dig out selectively root crops, in October they are collected completely, and then stored at temperature of +2-5 °C.
