Constant smell of dampness – the problem familiar to many residents not only individual, but also multifamily houses. It can proceed both from walls, and from furniture, especially soft, or from the clothes hanging in cabinet. It is possible to cope with this unpleasant phenomenon, observing certain recommendations.

1. To cope with dampness smell in the apartment, try to find out the reason of its emergence at first. Moisture can get through slots in walls, roof (on upper floor) or from the basement (on first floors). Also its flooding by neighbors from above or the idle mine of ventilation can be the cause of smell of dampness in the apartment. After identification of the reason address to the relevant municipal services for its elimination. Slots in joints of wall panels can try to be closed up independently by means of polyurethane foam.
2. Check whether pipes of cold water are well insulated. The condensate which is formed on them – the frequent reason of smell of dampness in the apartment. In case of need execute isolation by means of frothed polyethylene. In order to avoid emergence of condensate at windows take care of their warming.
3. Make renovation. If there is no such opportunity, at least replace old wall-paper – they most often exhale dampness smell.
4. Touch old things, get rid of unnecessary stuff. Air the remained clothes on the balcony within several hours. It is desirable to wipe boxes in cabinets with weak solution of potassium permanganate and to dry up properly before putting in them linen. Put on shelves with things several small linen sacks with the dried-up fragrant herbs or coffee beans.
5. Process the steam generator upholstery on furniture, carpets and paths. Wash curtains. Replace bed linen and from now on do it as often as possible. Carry in pillow dry-cleaner.
6. Regularly air the apartment, especially in warm season, and in cold – take care of that it was well heated. In case of need use heating devices.
7. For giving to air in rooms of pleasant aroma use natural essential oils or the flavored candles, previously having made sure of absence of allergy to them at family members. It is undesirable to use for this purpose aerosol air fresheners, especially if in the apartment there are patients with asthma.
8. Get air ozonizer. It will help not only to eliminate dampness smell in the apartment, but also to avoid its emergence further.
