The fittonia is replaced every year, as a rule, it is done in the early spring. Young copies look more decoratively therefore each 2-3 years recommend to update plant. It will well look if to place several shanks in one pot.
Instruction
1. The expanded bush of fittonia can be separated and seated accurately, it is only necessary to do it very carefully, at this plant very fragile escapes. If at the same time to land several shanks in one pot, it will look very effectively.
2. In the spring or cut off top shank of fittonia with 3-5 leaves in the summer, its length has to be about 5-8 cm, larger copies take root longer. After that carry out rooting in sand, it is the best of all to cover plant with glass jar.
3. For rooting it is possible to put shanks in water, only its layer has to be small — to 1 cm, it is necessary in order that the plant was better saturated with air. Capacity is placed in the tied plastic bag and put to the room with temperature of 25-28 °C. The package is periodically developed and spray foliage.
4. On rooting of shanks of fittonia from one to one and a half months leave. If strong withering of leaves is observed, it means that the root system is still insufficiently created. In order that the plant could survive in usual conditions, rooting is continued.
5. When in the container with water qualitative roots are formed, replace shank to the earth. Before change for fittonia prepare the friable substrate consisting of the cespitose, peat, heather or coniferous soil and also sand. At this plant superficial root system therefore it is better to select for it superficial and wide pots 5-7 cm high. It is necessary to lay good drainage on bottom.
6. The fittonia should be placed on bright diffused light, at the same time it is necessary to protect plant from direct sunshine. It is the best of all to place it at the western or east window, in winter time it needs good lighting therefore recommend to establish additional illumination by daylight lamps.
7. It is not necessary to put fittonia near heating devices or on draft. It is strictly forbidden to take out it on open air, even in warm weather. Recommend to maintain temperature at the level of 22-25 °C in the summer, it should not fall to the autumn and winter period below 18 °C. Fluctuations of temperatures are undesirable to fittonia, from it at plant fly about leaves.
8. The plant can be placed in terrarium or to make for it so-called "bottle garden". For this purpose take bottle with wide neck or decorative capacity with hermetic glass cover. Through opening put soil substrate on bottom, replace fittonia and well water it.
9. When on walls of capacity condensate appears, the cover is opened for 1-2 hours, the first 7-10 days act this way. After that the cover can be held closed. If the plant actively grows, it should be thinned out, best of all to do it in the spring or at the beginning of summer.
