Orchids need to be replaced periodically and in time. At the same time flowers not especially need spacious pots. For them it is much more important to be regularly in fresh substrate that to roots enough air arrived, and the pot could dry out evenly. Substrate is condensed and decays over time, and roots receive less air, than it is necessary. Therefore it is also necessary orchids in time to replace.
Instruction
1. It is necessary to do it once a one or two years. The best time for change is the early spring symbolizing initial phase of development of all plants. Substrate can be updated from late summer to early fall. In the winter during their blossomings orchids to replace it is not recommended, otherwise flowers will not manage to recover. In the summer during heat it is better not to replace flower too. It is better to replace again acquired orchid right after blossoming in the substrate used by you.
2. Important role at change is played by also drainage layer which is better for doing of clay crocks, flakes of stiropor or pebble. This layer will provide removal of water from roots for which harmfully constantly to be in water. Surely take fresh material for drainage and new pot (or old disinfected).
3. Operations procedure at change: separate orchid from pot, knead it properly from all directions and strike slightly pot bottom. Then completely remove all old substrate.
4. Further the scissors disinfected by fire cut off the died-off backs (if those are available), the old and died-off bulbs. Disinfect large wounds powder of wood charcoal.
5. Now fill pot with material for drainage on quarter. Powder layer with small amount of the earth. Now take orchid, insert it into pot, turning at the same time in different directions. Also place roots which were given through edges of vessel before in pot. Be careful with firm roots which are especially brittle.
6. Fill pot evenly from all directions with substrate. Also slightly strike pot in table to allow substrate to get into space between roots. At the same time the root neck of plant has to be over substrate. Water plant in a day or two, not earlier. Otherwise together with water, pathogenic bacteria will get into not healed wounds.
