Instruction
1. Orchids are considered as one of the most "gluttonous" plants. They literally exhaust the soil in which grow. Therefore once a year replacement of substrate which from time also is pressed is required, without allowing roots of orchid to breathe and dry. Usually make replacement before the next active phase of vegetation.
2. Buy new substrate. As a rule, for orchids choose the soil on the basis of wood bark. Such structure not only protects plant from rotting (and the orchid always has to have enough moisture), but also gives the necessary acid balance which will define further beauty, the size and chromaticity of so favourite flowers.
3. Take out plant from pot together with substrate and place rhizome in basin. Accurately remove the dried-up leaves which have swept aside roots including air from roots and stalk. Throw out substrate.
4. Stream of warm water wash out roots of plant and cut off all rotten parts the sharp thin knife which is previously disinfected. It is also recommended to process disinfecting solution and places of cuts. There is opinion that for this procedure it is possible to use iodine, but nevertheless it is better to gain special structure in shop. As a last resort it is possible to use pounded tablets of activated carbon. Leave plant on towel for couple of hours in the warm dark place, it will allow wounds to drag on from cuts.
5. Surely smell the soil acquired in shop. If you hear distinct smell of the wood, mushrooms, it is recommended to boil it. Boil couple of liters of water and spill it substrate. Let's cool down.
6. Prepare pot, it has to be three-four centimeters more, than circle of already cut off orchid rhizome. Make openings in the bottom, put layer of coarse gravel on bottom.
7. Place in pot ready soil, and in its center (precisely in the center) orchid. Powder roots from above, but do not do big layer, otherwise the root will decay. Numerous air roots can be not cut off. Water plant and remove in the shaded place for couple of days.
