When choosing apples for bookmark for the winter, first of all, consider grade of fruit and their natural lezhkost. Grades of Semirink, Kortland, Lobo, "Lighthouse", Spartan, "Athlete", Vityaz, "Antonovka" well are suitable for long storage.

Before storage carefully touch fruits of each grade, select the apples with mechanical damages and also affected with diseases and wreckers. It is possible to store only healthy fruits. Apples of one grade need to be sized – small, large, average - and to store them separately.

Put fruits in such container which, besides protection of apples against mechanical damages, will create optimal favorable conditions for temperature and humidity around product that will allow to pass to ventilation process most effectively. If you are going to store fruits in boxes, then in the course of laying apples need to be stratified shaving, fragmented peat, paper. It is possible to envelop paper each fruit. It is better not to use as packing straw as at the increased humidity it can become covered by mold that will impact to fruit unpleasant smell and relish. After harvesting the fruits need to be cooled quickly and, whenever possible, quicker to place them in conditions with rather low air temperature and high humidity. At the increased temperatures there is fast disintegration of chlorophyll in cages of fruits, low temperatures, in turn, too have untoward influence on safety of apples. 0 wasps, and for grade "Antonovka" - +2 - (+3) wasps will be optimum temperature for storage. The most favorable air humidity are 85 – 90%. If indoors for storage of apples there can be considerable temperature variation of air, too great values of humidity do not need to be maintained because it will lead to moisture condensation on container and walls of storage and to sweating of fruits. What, in turn, is the main reason of emergence of decay. But also excessively low values of air humidity can lead to withering of apples.
