The main recipe of storage of seeds of garden cultures is maintenance of dryness that their viability has remained. There are also other important conditions.


1. You do not store seeds in kitchen where gardeners as usual like to hold them. The kitchen is place where air humidity differences are very frequent, and it is pernicious for maintaining viability of seeds. You do not keep seeds in the fridge where even at good packing will settle condensate on them and they can be damaged. The exception for the maintenance of seeds in door of the fridge is possible only for seeds of carrots and onion. These cultures of cold are not afraid.

2. Find the place for seeds in any of living rooms of your house. For example, seeds can be put in internal wooden boxes of tables, in cabinet on the lower shelves. But you hold them far away from heating services.

3. Many seeds do not transfer temperature drops and cold minus conditions. Therefore do not leave them to be stored at the dacha in the winter if you do not live constantly there. Besides in country house rodents can spoil them.

4. The best temperature for any seeds during the winter period – from 12 to 16 wasps. Create whenever possible such conditions. Measure air humidity in the room where seeds are stored. It should not be much higher or lower than 50%. Keep in mind that seeds of bean cultures and also cucumbers, beets, tomatoes and cabbage love humidity of 60%.

5. Put dry seeds of garden cultures in dry can on which bottom lay the paper napkin absorbing moisture. Sign each can what seeds are stored in it. Sometimes summer residents solder the iron dry-through seeds in self-made polyethylene bags.

6. Standard conditions increase storage lives of seeds from 2 to 8 years. 1-2 years are stored seeds of corn, onions and parsley. The little till 3-4 years longer - cabbage, green salad, carrots, melon. Of 5 and more years it is possible to store seed of beet, tomatoes, pumpkins.
