Apple fir seed moth – the most dangerous wrecker of fruits of apple-tree. It winters in stage of adult caterpillars in cocoon, mainly on bark, in the soil or other places. During blossoming of apple-trees the caterpillar turns into butterfly and with the end of blossoming they take off and lay eggs on leaves or fruits. Then from eggs in several days there are new caterpillars and begin to eat fruits on trees.
In midland and in the north for the summer period there is only one such turn of transformation of caterpillars into butterflies and back, and here in the southern areas it can occur twice.
Correctly to struggle with fir seed moth on apple-trees, it is necessary to make at the time of mass development of caterpillars spraying of trees by chemical medicines, for example petrolphosphate. Also apple-trees process solutions of pesticides: the first time in 20 days after the end of blossoming, the second – in 10 days after the first.
Except spraying by chemical medicines hold number of preventive events. The most important, remove the old fallen-down fruits of apples. Effectively to do it in the evening when caterpillars of fir seed moth are in them. The fallen-down apples which are not of value dig in to the earth on depth more than 50 cm. Also make in the fall cleaning of trunks of trees of the dry and died-off bark and also of caterpillars which get under it on wintering.
One more good way of fight against fir seed moth is application of trap belts. For them use several layers of dense paper or burlap about 20 cm wide. Belts bind from above and from below twine or other rope. Usually such belts have in the lower part of shtamb in two weeks after blossoming and check after harvesting once. That the twine did not crash into bark of trees, it is gradually weakened.
