How to temper stainless steel

After the procedure of hardening, stainless steel gets hardness, losing the flexible properties. Training of steel knife blade is made by means of water, oil, plain air, wet sand, sealing wax, etc.

It is required to you

  • - steel blade;
  • - electric furnace;
  • - sealing wax;
  • - turpentine.

Instruction

1. Place steel blade without handle from plastic, tree or other type of material (only if knife not with cast handle also from stainless steel) in the cold electric oven.

2. Having turned on the furnace, heat gradually blade to 950-1050 degrees that it has gained the shining bright red color, and wait some time (5-10 minutes). It is possible to make heating of stainless steel and on hot coals, both on blowpipe, and by means of autogenous cutting, but it is the most convenient to control exact temperature condition in the electric oven.

3. Accurately, observing safety measures, take edge from the furnace, having reliably fixed it by flat-nose pliers or other fascinating tool, and quickly thrust it in sealing wax for second.

4. Further take it and thrust in the same sealing wax again, but already to the new, not touched earlier by edge place, and at once take.

5. Submerge and take the heated steel blade until you feel that metal is included into the mass of sealing wax as in oil, ostyv.

6. Clean steel blade from residues of sealing wax until it has stiffened, and grease it with turpentine. Training of edge from stainless steel on it is considered complete.
