How to weed beds

In the course of preparation of beds for landing of cultural plants it is recommended to choose roots of weeds carefully. Despite this precaution, the unnoticed or ascended from seeds weed plants can complicate growth of flowers or vegetables if in due time not to make weeding.

It is required to you

  • - gloves;
  • - manual fork;
  • - mattock with the short handle;
  • - subsurface cultivator;
  • - the mulching material.

Instruction

1. It is the best of all to start weeding of beds after rain or watering when moisture is absorbed to the earth and the soil will begin to be scattered on lumps. It will facilitate removal of weeds together with their root system. If you are going to weed thoroughly started bed on which cultural plants because of lack of light have managed to be extended, begin work in the late afternoon. The period of the increased humidity and the lowered temperature falling on night will give the chance to vegetables or greens to adapt to new conditions.

2. Before weeding put on rubber or dense cotton gloves hands. Among weeds there can be plants with cutting edge of leaves like wheat grass creeping, prickly sow-thistle or nettle. Dense material of gloves will allow to protect skin of hands. If you work in the afternoon, put on the head hat or summer hat with wide fields which will help to avoid overheating.

3. Begin with removal of weeds from space between ranks. To get rid of plants with powerful root system, thrust to the soil about weed manual fork or mattock with teeth, raise plant and shake off the soil from roots. Place remote weeds in bucket. The crushed green material can be used for compost preparation.

4. Among experienced gardeners there are supporters of weeding by means of subsurface cultivators. The point of such processing of beds consists in periodic oppression of growth of weeds and use of the cut-off green material as the mulching material, and is later as organic fertilizer. If you prefer this way of weeding, cut weeds with the subsurface cultivator, burying its working part to the soil at two-three centimeters. Leave the cut-off plants on beds.

5. It is possible to avoid or reduce risk of emergence on beds of weeds by means of such materials as the crushed wood bark, sawdust, straw or the mulching film. By spring preparation of bed remove roots of long-term weeds from the soil and cover the earth with layer of mulch from two to five centimeters thick. Stretch film and fix on bed perimeter. Planting plants, move apart friable mulch. If you use opaque film, make in it openings for landing.
