For work with gypsum cardboard the hand and electrically operated hand tool is used. It differs in the price, width of edges. Manual assumes use of the edging fret saw after cutting. The optimal variant is selected depending on amount of works.
Sheets of gypsum cardboard demand accurate cutting. For this purpose the tools created especially for work with such material are chosen. There are knives which are applied only to work with such sheets. It is possible to meet also universal types. Anyway before work it is desirable to prepare pencil or marking cord, tape measure, ruler, scissors.
Wallpaper knife
In the people it is called office. This look the most popular as has low cost. Options with width of edge of 18 and 25 mm are applied to gypsum cardboard. All of them are divided into three big categories:
- Consist of the body, back cover and fixer. Reliability at this option low, when pressing edge can cut through the body therefore further operation of knife becomes impossible.
- Are in addition equipped with metal guide. Thanks to it tougher fixing of edge is provided, the probability of violation of integrity of the body decreases.

The edge is thicker, the cut will be better. For work with the construction tool it needs to be recorded in such a way that only the tip no more than 1 cm long was visible. This tool has appeared in the market of building materials recently. It differs in simplicity during works and the long term of operation. Knife with disk edge
It is suitable for high-precision cutting on direct, curved or broken lines as goes lengthways directing, and constantly rotating edge cuts material without admissions. Working part maintains high loadings and great efforts. Therefore the tool can be used to performance of professional works.
Some options are on sale with the built-in tape measure. If have decided to stop the choice on such type, it is better to choose as disk the cutting torch with the rubberized handle.
Disk cutting torch
The main work elements – the disks located opposite to each other, fixed by eared nuts. Thanks to the last it is easy to replace them. Thanking special design gypsum plasterboard is cut from two parties, and the quality of cutting turns out ideal. The similar tool is suitable only for cutting thin and equal strips.
There are two types of cutting torches:
- And a quarter. It represents P-shaped metal plate, with the fixed disk knives which are directed towards to each other. The last have freedom of the course, can be fixed taking into account thickness of plate. On legs there is wooden bar allowing to make restriction of width of the cut-off part.
- Gives the chance to halve leaf, to execute angular or figured cutting. It represents two planes into which disk knives are inserted. These two planes are fastened to use of neodymium magnets.
Electric tool
Electrofret saws are used to cutting of gypsum cardboard. They well cut material both on straight line, and on the curved line. This option allows to work quickly, is suitable for professional works. Cutting does not demand serious physical efforts, takes a little time. Besides, the received edge will need the minimum processing.
If necessary by means of the electrofret saw it will be possible to make also openings in leaf. Curved lines turn out the most exact. However in need of cutting of leaf of the-shaped form both the hacksaw and the electrofret saw is applied as to receive internal corner in 90 degrees in other ways it will not turn out.
Big performance also belongs to advantages of the tool. If for one working hour it is possible to process normal knife at most 4 sheets of gypsum cardboard, then with use of the fret saw the work volume executed for the same period will be several times more. There will be enough power and to saw at once several layers of gypsum cardboard.
In conclusion we will note: after use of the majority of tools there is need of additional treatment of edge. The edging plane is applied to this purpose. It allows to simplify the procedure, to make edge accurate and equal. Obrazka of facet is carried out at an angle in 22.5 degrees. It is ideal parameter concerning gypsum cardboard. It is not recommended to use abrasive paper for these purposes as it is possible to damage gypsum plasterboard.
