Plant Pyrethrum: description, types, use

Pyrethrum – the plant loved by gardeners. It is unpretentious, almost not demanding special care, flower, pleasant throughout many years. It will perfectly fit into any design of seasonal dachas and will bring benefit.

Description of plant

Pyrethrum – flower which belongs to perennial grassy plants of family of thistle family (Astrov). This low winter-hardy plant with bright green cover. On exterior it is very similar to garden camomile. Pyrethrum easily takes root on any soil, breeds seeds and division of the prepared seedling. The flower has medicinal properties, gardeners plant it with pleasure on personal plot or in flower bed. The first flowers appear at the end of May and the first two months of summer are pleasing to the eye.

However, giant grades also occur among undersized Pyrethrum, for example:

  • Robinson GigantRed. Has high direct stalks to meter with bright scarlet colors similar to gerbera.
  • Pyrethrum balsam (tansy). In height the plant reaches more than a meter, the inflorescences of white color similar to cloud.

Popular types and grades of Pyrethrum

There are more than hundred species of perennial, however they are used not everything. At some subspecies amazing similarity among themselves, they differ in the smallest parts in the form of leaves, flowers and colors. Rich color variety is capable to decorate site landscape, to make design unique. Pyrethrums easily get on with other garden inhabitants, grow both in the sun, and in shadow.

Treat the most widespread types and grades:

  • Beautiful pyrethrum;
  • Large-leaved pyrethrum;
  • Pyrethrum shchitkovy (in common people romashnik);
  • Pyrethrum tsinerariyelistny or Dalmatsky camomile (silvery and smoky leaves);
  • Pyrethrum red (Caucasian camomile);
  • Pyrethrum pink (Persian camomile). At this look hybrid combinations of forms are especially often used.
  • Pyrethrum hybrid (terry). Favourite subspecies of this grade at gardeners Vanessa and Lord Rouzbury who have the terry form of flowers from white till pink color.
  • Maiden pyrethrum. Original annual plant. The most widespread grades Goldbal (yellow terry) and Virgo (white sphere).

Use of pyrethrums

Pyrethrum is widely applied in landscaping. Its main qualities – firmness, blossoming duration, rich color palette.

Unique features of plant consist in the following:

  • can grow on one place for many years;
  • changes even during blossoming;
  • if only green part in design of garden is necessary, then peduncles are cut off;
  • the aroma of pyrethrum frightens off wreckers, thereby brings benefit to the adjoining flowers.

It is landed along paths, grouped with other species of flowers in height on bed, lawn. It beautifully looks, perfectly gets on with ornamental shrubs, helps to create country style on the site.

The name of plant is translated from Greek as "fever". Its main curative property – to reduce temperature. In medicine it is applied at production of medicines which possess anti-inflammatory, spazmolitichesky and febrifugal action. Also medicines on the basis of pyrethrum are applied outwardly at treatment of rheumatism.

Recently pyrethrum began to be applied also in cosmetology. It is part of creams for the face and aftershave lotions. The natural component helps at inflammation or irritation of skin, early wrinkles.

In veterinary science it is applied as insecticide. Powder from the dried-up pyrethrum inflorescences ("Dalmatsky powder") applies to extermination of fleas, worms. It has pleasant spicy aroma, is safe for the person and pets. If flowers are collected at themselves on the site, then it is possible to dry up them and to hang up in cabinet / in kitchen for scaring away of cockroaches, bugs.
